The newest iteration of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has begun, and we now know our first two teams who will advance to the semi-finals.
Worlds Collided, And The Result Was Undisputed
Right now the build in NXT is focused on a few different events. NXT UK is running Takeover Blackpool II this Sunday, then there is also Worlds Collide later this month on January 25th. We will see both NXT brands go head to head, and we got a preview of that last night. It was NXT Tag Team Champions Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish of Undisputed Era, who with the help of Adam Cole, defeated NXT UK Tag Team Champions Mark Coffey & Wolfgang. Adam Cole would take advantage of the referee looking elsewhere to deliver a shot of the NXT Championship to the head, which would allow Undisputed Era to advance in the tournament. Having won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2018, they are no strangers to winning this tournament, and will look to claim the cup once again. They will face the winner of The Grizzled Young Veterans and Kushida & Alex Shelley next, and we will know who advances in that match next week.
Forgotten Once Again
In last years Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, we saw Forgotten Sons make a fantastic effort, making it all the way to the finals where they would lose to the team of Aleister Black & Ricochet. They would defeat Moustache Mountain and Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan on their way to the finals. This year has been much less successful for the often overlooked faction, as they have already been eliminated by Imperium. Marcel Bartel & Fabian Aicher delivered their patented combination of a powerbom and diving european uppercut to advance to the semi-finals. They will face to winner of Southwales Sub Culture (Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster ) & The BroserWeights (Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne).
Imperium, Grizzled Young Veterans & Southwales Sub Culture have a chance to bring the NXT UK Tag Team Championships back to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, as we see them involved in the ladder match for the belts this weekend at NXT Takeover Blackpool II. With Gallus taking a loss last night, they will need to show up big this weekend to prove they can still be a dominant force in NXT UK.
