Money In The Bank is in the books for another year, and it is getting great reviews from fans and critics alike. The action from the WWE Performance Center was great, and the Money In The Bank match from WWE Headquarters was fun, creative, and jam packed with references to WWE lore and history.
However, one of the best parts came in it’s length. While WWE PPV’s can tend to be a slog to get through, this PPV came in at only 2 hours and 25 minutes, and hour shorter than last years event. It was all killer, no filler, the way people enjoy their wrestling. This was done by choice, with that choice coming from Vince McMahon himself.
Vince McMahon Wants PPVs To Be Kept Short Until Fans Are Back
It has admittedly become harder to sit down and watch any wrestling show for too long since fans were removed from the equation. They truly do add to the excitement of the show, more than anyone has ever realized. You can only watch so many hours of wrestling without getting bored now, making the usual long PPV format not usable. This is almost a good thing that should stick, as fans both at home and in the arena would find themselves burnt out at the end of a show. Money In The Bank’s length did come at the cost of Viking Raiders vs. Street Profits for the RAW Tag Team Championships, a match that will likely just happen instead on Monday Night RAW this week.
What Does This Mean For Summerslam?
While Wrestlemania is the biggest event of the year for WWE, Summerslam has become a similar lengthed event in recent years. It usually is home to similarly big matches, and often has Wrestlemania rematches as well. Last year saw Seth Rollins challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship in the main event, as well as apperences from WWE legends in Goldberg & Trish Stratus.
As we don’t know when WWE can run shows with a crowd of fans again, we very well could see Summerslam be done in a similar format to Wrestlemania. They could cut it into two nights, or just have one focused 3 hour card like they did with Money In The Bank.
