Okay, it’s safe to say Becky Lynch’s role is going to be expanded even more Following Banks defeating Natalya on Raw. She’s the Raw Women’s Champion, so it’s expected. But this could be one of those moments where we could miss out on something special.
Natalya and Sasha Banks’ friendship ending with Banks attacking Natalya not once, but twice, has the promise to be something special.
The problem is someone thought Lynch needed to be involved
Maybe she does, but here’s the thing: Natalya and Banks are more than capable on their own.
Seriously.
The insertion of Lynch into a feud that doesn’t concern her speaks to the possibility WWE creative doesn’t have anyone they feel is capable of facing her for the championship. This would make sense if it happened after Ronda Rousey had broken and nearly severed the tip of her finger shooting a scene for 911 and ended any hopes for her to return to the WWE for the near future, but it didn’t
While there are plenty of talented women superstars on hand, the WWE looks like they’ve been trying to legitimize the women’s tag division at the expense of the singles division.
Triple Threat here we come
It’s not hard to see the writing on the wall leading up to Clash of Champions.
It’s practically a lock that Banks, Lynch, and Natalya will be in a triple threat match for the women’s title, assuming they don’t end Natalya’s angle too soon. That would be the main reason for Lynch to continue cutting promos about Banks, and if it’s not, then it’s one of those arcs (like Goldberg and Undertaker) meant to draw us in to buy tickets for the pay-per-view.
We’d love to see Lynch and Banks go at it, so we’ll buy in and watch it. Natalya could be forgotten in the exchange, or she could win the title.
Banks could pull out the win to create a rivalry between her and Lynch, since this would be the only way conceivable for Lynch to lose the title (calling the promo now if this happens).
Of course, Lynch could win and move on to… who? Right there brings us back to the most likely reason she’s been inserted into this arc. No matter how the pay-per-view ends, it’d be a disservice to Banks and Natalya to end their feud with the end of the match or put it on the back burner.
There’s a reason for the old saying about being a third wheel.
