AEW Dynamite is tonight folks! Britt Baker faces Priscilla Kelly on this very unique episode! I’m Jordan Huie, you are here at the Overtimer, and as always I will be giving full coverage to tonight’s proceedings! It’s a very special one to be sure, as it’s taking place on board a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean of all things! It’s Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N Wrestling Rager At Sea Part Deux: Second Wave, and it seems to be the start of a new All Elite Wrestling tradition! The show is just an hour away now from airing at the time of my typing this, so let’s not waste any time! Let’s dive right into the previews!
(Due to the nature of this, the show had to be pre-taped a day in advance. That means spoilers are afoot, even on this here site! I’ve avoided them best I can and will not be doing any such thing myself, but proceed with caution.)
Britt Baker vs. Priscilla Kelly
Britt Baker is one of the marquee names in AEW’s women’s division. From the start, the wrestling dentist was something of a figurehead, a respectable face of the company. They absolutely adore putting her on posters, billboards and sending her to media presentations. And though she does have some consistency issues, on her best days, she’s a very good hand in the ring as well, and not a bad promo at all to boot. So she’s got a lot going for her.
But she hasn’t really connected as a babyface in spite of their pushing her. Atleast not as much as the likes of Riho, Hikaru Shida or Kris Statlander have. (And early on, Kylie Rae… still miss her.) Indeed, the people she was pinning tended to be more over than her on average. So they shifted gears and changed focus for the division. Instead of being it’s stalwart champion, Baker is now more the person everyone must beat to get a shot at Riho.
Frustrated with this, she made it pretty clear that she’s turning heel.
After Riho pinned Britt in a brutal four way match to retain her title, and was immediately put through a table afterwards, Britt chewed out the poor girl and made herself to be quite the poor loser. Priscilla Kelly on the other hand is making her AEW Dynamite debut. To my knowledge she’s only appeared in the All Out Casino Royale for AEW in the past. She’s a girl that went viral early on last year for her… inventive use of tampons in a match.
I don’t believe she’s been signed so this is likely something of a tryout for her. Whereas Britt is likely going to be solidifying her heel turn and going after Riho once again soon. Baker to win, obviously.
