Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here! It’s Monday Night, which means another edition of the long running flagship show, WWE Raw! It’s already underway and it certainly got off to a good start! Randy Orton opened the show to call out AJ Styles, his long-standing rival. The two of them were set to square off in a one-on-one match, the follow up to Orton’s feigned retirement angle after AJ had seemingly injured his knee! But Drew McIntyre had a different intention.
Orton revealed the ruse and dropped AJ with an RKO. AJ then mocked Randy in his next match by hitting his own signature moves to defeat Akira Tozawa. This was continued in the match at hand here, with AJ using one of Orton’s famed moves on him, and Orton retaliating in kind! But ultimately, it was Drew McIntyre that came out on top here tonight, one of the biggest wins of his career!
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
Orton was wanting a superplex on AJ, only for the rope-hung McIntyre to nail a Spider German Suplex, completing the tower! “This Is Awesome” chant already! McIntyre hits Orton with a Glasgow Kiss, gets a Future Shock DDT on AJ, sets up for the Claymore but Orton stops him with a standing dropkick! Drew takes Orton out of the ring, drives him repeatedly into the barrier and apron! Styles with a Phenomenal Forearm to the floor on Drew, Orton back suplexes him onto the barrier, AJ posts him!
Orton slams the steel steps into McIntyre’s face! AJ slips into the ring and asks Orton to come on in. AJ grabs him on the way though and hits the Draping DDT, stealing Orton’s signature yet again! Pele Kick, Orton wrestles his way to an advantage… steals the Styles Clash! Nearfall! Randy nails AJ with the RKO – only for Drew to slip in and hit an immediate Claymore Kick for the victory!
Winner: Drew McIntyre
