Tessa Blanchard has blazed the trail of womens wrestling in Impact Wrestling right through any proverbial glass ceilings that could have held her back. On this past weeks episode of Impact Wrestling, Tessa defeated former Impact Wrestling Champion Brian Cage to become the number one contender for the companies top prize, which is held by Tessa’s rival, Sami Callihan.
Size Disadvantage & Intergender Wrestling
Intergender Wrestling is one of the most divisive topics in the realm of professional wrestling. It rightfully makes some people uncomfortable, but it truly has it’s place in the industry. Many talented men & women have provided that gender doesn’t matter when it factors into a professional wrestling setting, all that matters is raw talent.
Many will have issues with the size disadvantage most women will give up in a a match. With Brian Cage & Tessa Blanchard, Cage absolutely dwarfs her, but she used her skill & quickness to overcome her bigger, stronger opponent. So long as a match is booked in a way that benefits both performers, things like size & gender become meaningless. Size differences being divisive isn’t exclusive to intergender wrestling, just look up Marko Stunt on Twitter and that’ll quickly become clear.
Tessa Blanchard has been one of the premiere intergender wrestlers in recent memory, and has faced Sami Callihan in brutal matches in the past. They have excellent chemistry, and their title match at Impact: Hard To Kill in January will be a fantastic match, and maybe one that will help clear up some of the stigma surrounding intergender wrestling as a whole.
World Title Aspirations Aren’t Enough
While Tessa Blanchard going for the world title is a start, it is far from the end of Impact Wrestling loosening up on their knockouts division shining alongside the men. Tessa Blanchard & Jordynne Grace have their eyes on a potential Impact Tag Team Title opportunity in 2020. Jordynne Grace plays the powerhouse to Blanchards technical mastery, making them a deadly duo. If anything, Grace is a more believable threat to most male wrestlers, given just how powerful she can be.
Impact has always been a trailblazing company with their knockouts divison, and before long the lines will become very blurred and the glass ceiling removed. It is an exciting time to be a fan, as they’re truly creating a product uniquely there’s, no longer being simply WWE-lite.
