The news that Primo Colon was suspended by WWE for 30 days made headways last week. The 2x WWE Tag Team champion was not competing at the moment with the company. He and his cousin, Epico, took over WWE Hall of Famer, Carlos Colon’s WWC. The company that saw the rise of them and Carlito is enjoying a somewhat healthy reestablishment after two fatal years.
In WWC’s last show, Primo Colon turned heel and betrayed the Colon Dynasty (Carlito and Epico). He has joined the main heel group in the company and was on the process to face again Orlando (Epico) Colon for the WWC Universal Championship (the oldest title in the Caribbean). But then, WWE announced that Primo had violated the WWE wellness policy. This instantly suspended him from competing in the company for 30 days. The sight was a strange one when you consider that Primo hasn’t competed for the company since February. For many on the island, the piece of news was a confusing one. Will he still compete for WWC? or, Will the suspension apply to Puerto Rico?
When talking to the Puerto Rican newspaper, Primer Hora, Primo Colon had to say about the suspension:
“I was not on the road, I was not scheduled for any event in the near future. I am in Puerto Rico when they call me suddenly, not to use me, but to travel for a doping test. I was ready to do it, but I told them that I was in Puerto Rico and that I was willing to go to a place that they chose to test me without any problem. I was not going to pay for a trip to just get tested for doping…
Then I didn’t hear anything from the company about it and I thought they were going to call me when they found a place to do the test,… Almost two months pass and I get the letter that I am suspended, according to them, because I refused to take the test. And that is not correct. They took it as I was out of the country [and unavailable], but I was available.
I don’t want them to say that I failed to test positive because that is totally false and incorrect… They usually do their doping test at events; someone appears to collect the urine of fighters, employees, referees to do their evaluation once a month. I was in Puerto Rico. I have to clarify it because my reputation is worth more than any check.”
Colon’s explanation seems fair. People on the island have noticed their increased participation in WWC and their detachment from WWE competition. Also, with a difference from his brother Carlito, Primo is not a wrestler that tends to use chemicals that could put him in trouble with WWE.
With respect to what’s going to happen, WWC has already set the match for Primo on January 4th. We have to keep in perspective that the suspension is still active on that date. The premise is, that WWC claims that the suspension can only affect him in the WWE, not in the WWC (a company that he and his brother practically own). The wrestler that Colon is facing is no other than El Mesias (Mil Muertes). Colon told Primer Hora that his contract is set to expire on October 2020. It seems that he is still relying on the payments that WWE still does while developing the WWC project that was basically death before the Colon trio took over. In that same cartel, Epico Colon will defend the WWC Universal Championship against AAA wrestler and former Mega Champion, Texano Jr.
