You may have noticed but a new WWE game has been released for iOS and Android. Yes, I’m talking about WWE Universe. You’d think “Oh cool, I’ve got a booking simulator on my phone and I can book WWE matches! Awesome!” At least you would probably think that going on Universe mode from the WWE 2K games.
Unfortunately, this is another battle game but it’s not a card battle game like Supercard or a fighting game like Immortals. It’s actually in between the two. Yes, I remember WWE Champions was a thing. We’re talking about Universe.
WWE Universe
This game has all the trappings of a card game but you’re given a little control over the action in the ring. Actually, if you’ve played both SuperCard and Champions, it will feel familiar.
You’ll have to build up to using signature moves and finishers by selecting the right strike impact. Lighter impact strikes are harder to reverse and will usually get you to a signature move faster and with little risk. High impact strikes will eat at your opponent’s energy bar but put you at risk of reversals. If challenged with a reversal you’ll need to tap the screen in the right place on the reversal bar (the middle).
It’s really simple and the game play is perfect for smartphones. You’re given a roster of WWE superstars to use in online battles and through story mode–which is pretty much the same in each WWE mobile game. You’ve got your matches against the authority’s talent or just opponents for the night then you get a title match after so many wins.
Outside of the ring, you’ll be able to buy or get stat improvements for your superstars after you’ve gotten the required pieces or whatever and unlock more superstars through packs. So, you still have the card game element there.
Verdict
Is WWE Universe worth downloading? Somewhat. It’s not a horrible game at all and it could be better easily. While it isn’t that unique for a wrestling game or a WWE title, you will get hours of fun out of it and stick around to improve your roster. Definitely give it a try if you need a WWE fix.
