Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here, and it’s Wednesday. You know what that means. That’s right, we got more previews, this time for AEW Dynamite!
Slightly less matches than usual are being advertised for this one. I think this is for a few reasons. They want to put as much focus as they can on the tag title tournament final, which they’re pushing heavily at the expense of much else. The other is that I think they’re gonna start working in more promos and angles going forward.
Even so there’s plenty to talk about, so let’s get to it!
Jon Moxley in action/live.
That usually translates to a jabroni match, but they did this for the Young Bucks and Britt Baker last week and they both ended up getting a run for their money. Of course they eventually announced their opponents whereas we have no inclination as to who Mox is facing, so this may well end with an immediate Paradigm Shift.
Also I could’ve sworn he was advertised as being ‘in action’ on AEW Dark, which is what the above paragraph is referring to, but the graphics say “Jon Moxley live” which sounds more like a promo to me. Of course we can easily get both. We are overdue for promos from Mox and Omega about their rivalry.
Hangman Page vs. Sammy Guevara
The first singles match for either man since the debut episode of AEW Dynamite and the next chapter in the saga of the Elite vs. the Inner Circle. In theory this should be a Page win, but considering he gave Cody all he could handle before, you can expect more of the same. Should be a good one.
The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs. Kip Sabian & The Hybrid-2
Sabian has made the challenge, saying he’s the man with the best win/loss record to have not yet debuted on Dynamite, something he chalks up to how much focus there is on the Elite. The quest is simple; beat the Elite, become the Elite.
I can’t imagine there’s a single person in this world that expects that, but this will be a really, really cool match regardless!
Cody and Chris Jericho contract signing.
In what is sure to be another memorable segment, the two participants in the main event of AEW Full Gear will sign on the dotted line for their AEW World Championship match. It’s been noted that the encounter will have a panel of judges to give the decision in the case of a time limit draw. This will be announced here for the live crowd for certain, so we’ll get something of a gauge of fan response.
Notably, the only other time we’ve seen in contract signing in AEW was with Cody and Shawn Spears, and during this the stip was added that each side could only have one person accompanying them at ringside. So we might have a similar revelation during this, hard to say.
AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Final: SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs. The Lucha Bros.
And here it is. After weeks of a pretty damn strong tournament, we get to the climax. And sometimes the obvious choice is the right one. Really they’ve been building this feud since their confrontation week 1, but it really intensified with the assault ahead of their Round 1 bouts that ended up putting Christopher Daniels on the shelf. He’s still expected to be out for a few weeks after this.
Lot of animosity, and a lot of focus. This match should tear the house down and no matter who wins, I think you have a great set of inaugural tag champs on your hands. Personally I’d probably go Lucha Bros, but SCU would be very fitting as well. It should be noted that they seem extremely high on Scorpio Sky in particular, and single him out to the point that I feel he’s being groomed as a singles star. Whether that makes SCU winning more or less likely is hard to say, depends on how far down the line that intention goes.
