Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here, as always I will be recapping AEW Dynamite live later tonight! But before that, let’s take a look on what’s on tap!
A special announcement from Cody Rhodes
Two weeks ago, Cody was about to give a major announcement on his career only to be interrupted by the Inner Circle. He said it wasn’t time sensitive so it could wait, and tonight seems to be the night. Honestly, I don’t have a guess as to what this could be. Considering the timing, one might think it’ll have an impact on the AEW World title match at Full Gear. But every indication seems to imply a more permanent change. We already know that he and Brandi won’t be associating directly on TV anymore. So what’s left to reveal? We’ll just to have to see.
Trent? vs. PAC
Anyone who followed Beretta in New Japan probably saw him start to break out as a singles star, only for it to be cut short due to injury and later the jump to AEW. He was really starting to show out on his own though, most notably in a great bout with Kenny Omega. Thus far a dedicated member of the Best Friends, this is Trent’s first singles match in AEW and he has quite the test in PAC.
No points for picking the winner here, with PAC being both the bigger star and the guy with a match confirmed for the PPV. But it oughta be a real goodun!
Hangman Page & Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
Big-time tag match here, and an interesting one considering Sammy G is the only one who doesn’t have a big time match coming up this Saturday. That probably makes it pretty obvious who takes the fall but thus far Jericho hasn’t lost a match in AEW even when teaming with others. We’ll see if that first chink in the armor of the Inner Circle comes tonight. PAC and/or Jon Moxley could also easily make their presence known so you have to figure that in as well…
While not being officially advertised, there are several other matches that are expected to take place. Shawn Spears vs. Brandon Cutler is one, likely a glorified squash. Should be noted that they’re pushing a feud between Spears and Joey Janela so that match may be more an excuse to get Spears on TV so Joey can retaliate for the assault on AEW Dark.
A tag match pitting Riho & Shanna vs. Emi Sakura & Jamie Hayter is also anticipated. Emi is challenging Riho at Full Gear so I’d figure she pins Shanna here, sounds like it’d be a fun match. Hikaru Shida vs. Big Swole may also be taking place, that kinda sounds more like a match that’d be taped for AEW Dark but we’ll see.
Perhaps most significant is a rumored three-way tag team match, featuring Private Party vs. The Dark Order vs. The Hybrid-2. In theory the winner of this could end up challenging SCU.
None of those matches were announced, thus they are not in big text! Don’t get mad at me if they don’t happen…
All I know is, three days out from Full Gear, for the first time AEW has a true go-home show on their hands. It’s gonna be interesting to see how well it does! Six matches announced for the PPV thus far, and we really should have the full card by the time this iteration of AEW Dynamite goes off the air… we’ll see!
