WWE SmackDown is on-going as I type this. The opening segment just wrapped up as I speak, in which Roman Reigns opened up the show. He gave thanks for his partners at Survivor Series – Mustafa Ali, Shorty G, Braun Strowman – all of them aside from King Corbin. He put over his team big for defeating NXT and Raw in the 5-on-5-on-5 men’s traditional Survivor Series elimination match.
He asked to have Corbin out there, demanding a thank you for winning on his behalf. When King Corbin mocked this, Roman asked him to wrestle him in the ring tonight instead. Corbin balked at this, and offered to instead send one of his flunkies, Robert Roode out to face Roman instead.
As we faded to commercial after, it’s quite apparent that Robert Roode will indeed be facing off with Roman Reigns in our opening contest for the evening.
Tag partner Dolph Ziggler was accompanying him and will likely be making his presence known. King Corbin is also likely to continue interfering.
It’s Roode’s first major singles match in some time, likely since he faced Seth Rollins on Raw in the lead-up to his and Ziggler’s match with Seth and Braun Strowman for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships some months ago.
This all aside, it seems like the most foregone of conclusions that Roman will be getting a fairly easy victory here tonight. Though there is always room for shenanigans in WWE, and the odds of this getting a non-finish that turns into a big six-man tag or something to that effect would not be out of the question whatsoever. You just can’t put anything past WWE after all!
