Why is Rusev the baby daddy? Glad you asked.
The fun thing about rumors, especially spoilers, give us a chance to play booker and try to figure out what’s going to happen and to whom and how often.
This one is a little different as WWE creative put its own soap opera-esc spin on their new pregnancy angle. Assuming, of course, that it’s a legitimate spoiler. But let’s worry about that later.
As bad and the Rusev, Lana, and Bobby Lashley storyline has been thus far, it’s going to get worse, so let’s have some fun with it.
Okay, we’ve all heard how Rusev wanted to have children with Lana, and that’s part of the reason she left him. Sounds weak, so they added in Bobby Lashley telling her Rusev was cheating on her to add some umph to it, but we’re not going to worry about that at the moment.
Going by the leaked spoiler information, Lana is nine weeks pregnant and she’s only been with Bobby Lashley for seven weeks.
How this could play out
Well, simply put, Rusev is the father. Lana is not going to like that and she’ll lash out at him for it. Most likely, she’ll accuse him of tricking her into getting pregnant and/or accuse him of raping her at some point.
Either of those will be risky to play out in this day and age with social justice warriors looking for any reason to jump on a company and condemn them (downplaying rape is one reason). Not to mention, they’re trying to put Rusev over as a major face and this will split the crowd between those that are outraged for Lana and those for Rusev.
This is precisely the type of thing Vince McMahon has been trying to avoid for years. The only controversy he likes is the ones he controls, and this type of storyline would quickly grow out of his reach.
How this will probably play out
Most likely, Lana will lash out at Rusev, accusing him of tricking or trying to entrap her. She’ll bring up all the women Bobby Lashley told her Rusev cheated on her with, and in her righteous indignation, she’ll get in deeper with Bobby Lashley.
This will enforce Rusev’s standing as a face and turn Lana into the real heel in their triangle. She’ll take her place as the manipulator of both men and possibly more.
Either way, Rusev is meant to be the face of all faces throughout this storyline. The question will then becomes how long before no one cares why Rusev is Lana’s baby daddy?
