WWE Survivor Series 2019 Preview | WWE Universal Championship: The Fiend Bray Wyatt vs. Daniel Bryan

Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and we are closing in on a pretty damn crazy weekend of wrestling. The long talked about NXT main roster invasion has finally happened over the past few weeks, and we’ve been led to a truly unique couple of shows. Rounding out the weekend, WWE Survivor Series 2019 is upon us, and it’s set to be a very unique show to say the very least. It’s a three way war, with Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT! Plus, three very interesting world title matches will be taking place as well.

Regardless of what you think of the build, the card itself looks incredible. It should be a surreal experience seeing these bouts come to head. And I’ll be doing a match by match preview for the whole show, so let’s get to it!

WWE Universal Championship: The Fiend Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

At Crown Jewel, the Fiend took the Universal Championship and now we have his first defense. Sadly the graphic on WWE.com lacks the pretty blue Universal title. And it’s quite the throwback as he squares off with Daniel Bryan, someone the old Bray had a lot of history with. Though they haven’t brought that up so much, Bray has hinted that the Fiend remembers… he never forgets. Obviously on some level he still holds a grudge for his joining the Wyatt Family just to try and destroy it from the inside years ago.

As a match, this is fascinating to think about. The Fiend is a monster in every sense, booked more powerfully than anything we’ve seen. If a billion curbstomps and all the weapons in the world couldn’t keep him down at Hell In A Cell, then what exactly is Daniel Bryan going to do against him in a regular match? Mainly, the answer is gonna be suffer. If you saw Daniel Bryan contend with Brock Lesnar at this event last year, you can probably guess how it’ll go when the Fiend gets a hold of him, just complete and utter brutality.

This match happens to come at an odd time for Daniel Bryan. He’s embroiled in an angle with Sami Zayn and his growing troupe of artists who are constantly appealing for him not to go back to the old with the Yes! Movement but to move forward with them. Last week, Bryan rejected them, citing Sami running away and leaving him for dead when the Fiend attacked… but it would sure seem like he could use all the help he could get when stepping into the ring with him. Sami would perhaps be more brave when Shinsuke and Cesaro are behind him.

I don’t think I’m predicting a full-on turn or a title change exactly but I do suspect some shenanigans at play here. Calling a non-finish.

Story-wise, it’d make the most sense to me if Daniel tried to face the Fiend by himself initially, only to find that it’s too much for him to even think about overcoming alone. So you do a non-finish of some sort to justify giving him another shot, but only after making it clear how outmatched he is. This would then give him incentive to join up with Sami and the gang.

WWE Survivor Series 2019 will be airing this Saturday on the WWE Network at 7 PM Eastern Time, 6 Central. There will also be a two hour pre-show leading into the event. The show emanates from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and I will be giving you a live play by play of the show as it happens. Stay tuned!

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
