WWE Survivor Series 2019 Preview | WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and we are closing in on a pretty damn crazy weekend of wrestling. The long talked about NXT main roster invasion has finally happened over the past few weeks, and we’ve been led to a truly unique couple of shows. Rounding out the weekend, WWE Survivor Series 2019 is upon us, and it’s set to be a very unique show to say the very least. It’s a three way war, with Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT! Plus, three very interesting world title matches will be taking place as well.

Regardless of what you think of the build, the card itself looks incredible. It should be a surreal experience seeing these bouts come to head. And I’ll be doing a match by match preview for the whole show, so let’s get to it!

WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

This match, if we’re being honest, is the one with far and away the best build. It’s really the only thing that’s felt all that much like a main event angle. Every attack on Rey has been great, every comeback and babyface fire from him in return has been phenomenal. Heyman’s of course had great promos and Rey has surprisingly had plenty right back. This may well be the last time Rey gets to have a match of this magnitude and he’s clearly passionate about it.

Something to note that is that despite appearances, Heyman has promised that this match will not end in five seconds. In other words, it will not be a repeat of Lesnar’s title win over Kofi Kingston, just making sure the audience knows in advance that this will be a real match, in which they’ve promised Rey will be utterly tortured. This is likely being treated as another throwback to last year’s between Lesnar and Daniel Bryan, even though I just made that analogy with the WWE title match…

But it’s true that Rey can also pull off a similar kind of bout. Hopefully it’ll be a hot one, given all that’s been put into it. And if it’s truly Rey’s last hurrah in a major title match, I’m sure he’ll do everything he can to make it a legendary bout.

I don’t think anyone really expects to see a title change here. It’d be interesting to say the least but fairly out of nowhere. Honestly I haven’t even given thought to what the direction might be if he took the title here, it’s just such a longshot. But honestly, it’d be hard to ever be mad to see Rey become champion. I’m sure it’d get quite the fantastical shock pop if nothing else.

But at the end of the day, the Beast is the heavy, heavy favorite for damn good reason. He’ll almost certainly retain.

WWE Survivor Series 2019 will be airing this Saturday on the WWE Network at 7 PM Eastern Time, 6 Central. There will also be a two hour pre-show leading into the event. The show emanates from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and I will be giving you a live play by play of the show as it happens. Stay tuned!

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
