Hey hey everybody, Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to finish up tonight’s previews! AEW Dark is soon to be premiering on YouTube as I type this. As I’ve been mentioning, we’re going without NWA Powerrr this week so AEW Dark is our sole source of wrestling for this lonely little Tuesday night. Thus, full scale previews! So let’s go ahead and finish them off with the super obvious main event of the week!
Kenny Omega vs. Kip Sabian
Kenny Omega… really likes working on AEW Dark in singles matches. It’s interesting to me. He’s so high on the totem pole both on-screen and off, he does not have to do this at all. It’s his third time on here, always in one-on-one matches, and his second appearance here in three weeks. When you consider there are only 3 or 4 matches every week on Dark, it’s kind of a lot. More than most, certainly.
Anyway, in addition to just generally being the Best Bout Machine, he’s also the AAA Mega Champion, which is a little more important on AEW Dark considering he’s already defended it on this show before. That makes him an interesting one results-wise as anytime someone could theoretically get a flash pin on him and earn themselves a title match in the future. Of course that’s something you’re much more likely to see in the form of a tag match than any one-on-one bout.
For Kip, it’s his biggest match to date to say the very least. He hasn’t gotten a win in a while but this is his first regular bout since announcing his pairing with Penelope Ford. So it’s a big chance for him to get a huge injection of momentum. But frankly he really doesn’t need to win this to be elevated. Omega seems to enjoy going up against midcard folks and letting them show everyone how good they are. He’s done it with Joey Janela and Jack Evans, now it seems it’s Kip’s turn. It’s something I appreciate quite a bit really. Omega over.
