This past week on AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho vs. Jungle Boy was confirmed to be Chris Jerichos final match of 2019. AEW management needed Jericho to face one more opponent, and when Jungle Boy challenged him, he would be silly to not face him.
Many who watched this segment got confused and thought it was a match for the AEW Championship, when that was never even mentioned. It will simply be a singles showcase for Le Champion and Jungle Boy.
Jungle Boy and His AEW Record
‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry has yet to get a victory in All Elite Wrestling. He has also yet to have a singles match, mainly tagging with Jurassic Express partners Marko Stunt or Luchasaurus. He is a fantastic and young talent, but he is nowhere near a title shot in AEW.
The 22 Year Old son of the late Hollywood actor Luke Perry has made a name for himself in companies like Game Changer Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as one of the next top stars in professional wrestling, but his prime is still years away.
His upcoming match with Chris Jericho should make him look like a star, and is easily the biggest match of his young career. An upset victory would catapult him to stardom, and while we can’t discount that possibility, a Jericho victory is much more likely.
Cody Clarified On Twitter
Responding to a fan who took offense to Jungle Boys imaginary title shot, Cody simply said “It’s not a title shot. Gonna’ be a great match though friend.” The fan changed their tone after Cody actually responded to the tweet, and cleared up the situation.
The fact that this even needs to be clarified shows that wrestling fans sometimes have issues paying attention to storylines. The AEW Championship was never mentioned, yet fans jumped to conclusions and got angry a man with a 0-8 record was getting a title shot.
It will be a fantastic match, and Jungle Boy will eventually be a contender for the AEW Championship, but that day isn’t coming in 2019.
