Ladies and gentlemen, whether you realize it or not, we are at the precipice of a three-day weekend of pro wrestling PPVs. Of course WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019 is this Sunday. But that’s not even close to all. The National Wrestling Alliance, which really came out of the woodwork to impress a lot of people in the fall of 2019, are returning to PPV for the first time in April tomorrow night, with their event, Into The Fire. And if that’s not enough, tonight, Ring of Honor is putting on what is nominally their biggest event of the year, the WrestleMania-equivalent if you weel, ROH Final Battle 2019!
It’s the latter that I’ll be discussing right now, as we have ten matches to look into! So let’s not waste any more time.
Matt Taven vs. Vincent
These two were once key members of the Kingdom, the group that once upon a time was led by Adam Cole. At his leave, Taven took it over by force and has done everything in his power to try and become a headlining act in Ring of Honor. At the historic G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden, Taven won a triangle ladder match featuring Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll to become ROH World Champion.
However… the reign didn’t go over too well. Ring of Honor’s business suffered quite a bit, as while Taven is a good wrestler, he’s never proven himself to be on the level of top guys of ROH’s past. He’s not Lethal, nor is he Adam Cole, nevermind the icons of the mid-2000s onwards. It’s a high bar to reach.
Taven since lost the title and the Kingdom is no more. The remnants now duke it out in this rather sad match. Vinny Marseglia, now calling himself Vincent presumably to cash in on that Soultrain Jones hype, has undergone something of a makeover for this. So I figure Vincent gets the duke over his old boss.
ROH Final Battle 2019 airs tonight on iPPV, 7PM CT.
