Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give a preview of what’s to come tonight on what’s sure to be another awesome Wednesday in wrestling! We’ve got plenty in store between the two competing brands, as the Wednesday Night Wars continue to get more and more interesting with the numbers slipping closer and closer together… I’ll be looking at both shows, but we’re going through WWE NXT first!
Next on tap is a title match, and one with quite a bit of tension to it at that!
NXT Cruiserweight Championship: Lio Rush (c) vs. Angel Garza
Lio Rush won the Cruiserweight title and in the process, really put the division on the map in a sense. He’s been having exciting matches ever since. The Cruiserweight title has been established as a pretty strong part of the NXT brand now, and this feud has had a lot to do with it.
In their first encounter for the gold, Angel Garza made quite a showing of himself – in more ways than one! With Lio Rush’s wife at ringside, Angel made a point to go out into the crowd and rip his tearaway pants off right in front of her. This was more than a little suggestive to say the least. Lio was not happy about it, as the match intensified shortly after. Rush did end up retaining that night but the feud between the two did not cease. Angel Garza then defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott on the NXT TakeOver: WarGames pre-show, which seemed to be enough to get him back in contention. Later that same night, Lio jumped Garza, making it clear that he hadn’t gotten quite enough of him the first time.
Tonight is their rematch. And I gotta say, I’m a little surprised they’re going back to it so soon. Angel Garza is a very interesting prospect for the future, and I do see him being Cruiserweight Champion some time in the next year. But it seems like it’d be such a short reign for Lio Rush for him to drop it right now, at a time where they want to establish the prestige of this title. At the same time, Lio beating Garza twice in a row in such a short order doesn’t seem like the best idea…
