Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and tonight is another edition of WWE SmackDown! I’ll be giving you the play by play as always.
Surprisingly we open with Elias in the ring. He sings along with the crowd. “When I say ‘We need Elias’, say ‘Yes we do’.” It’s not getting a lot of biters. Notes regrets from 2019, like Bayley’s haircut and Shane McMahon. But atleast this show doesn’t have the Lana-Lashley wedding. Hypes the main event for tonight, and that’s about it.
Naturally the obvious main event triple threat is set to happen immediately. As King Corbin makes his way out however, he goes on a lengthy tirade until Roman Reigns’ music hits, causing his henchmen to drop him. Roman then attack Corbin and sent him running over the barrier.
Backstage, Corbin demands the match be postponed. Sooooo he’s going to demand that the main event be the main event. Cool.
New Day make their way out now.
The New Day & Braun Strowman vs. Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura & Sami Zayn
Yes, this is not a drill, Sami Zayn is actually in a match tonight! Wonder if he gets tagged in…
New Day with a pop-up legdrop on Cesaro. Kofi and Shinsuke in, leap frop and back elbow from Kofi. He sends Shinsuke to the floor, hits the ropes, Sami Zayn cuts him off. SAMI TAGS IN! Stomps Kofi and throws punches into his face! Dumps him to the floor. He gets in the face of Braun and Big E, making a distraction for the ref as Cesaro dashes in for a huge flying uppercut on Kofi on the outside takes him over the broadcast table! Commercial break.

Shinsuke with a chancery, tag to Cesaro who comes in with a flying double axe handle. Gutwrench Suplex for a nearfall. “Kofi” chant, Kofi with a sunset flip counter on a deadlift, kickout, Cesaro with another destructive European Uppercut for a nearfall. Tag to Nakamura, Inverted Suplex, driving knees to the ribs. Shinsuke locks Kofi in an Abdominal Stretch. He mocks E with spanks on Kofi, breaks it to knock E off the apron. Turns back to Kofi, clothesline blocked, SOS!
Tag to Cesaro, Sami grabs Braun’s leg to keep him from leaning in for the tag, chased him but gets driven into the barrier. Shinsuke and Cesaro now double teaming Kofi, another driving european uppercut, Shinsuke with the Taiji Ishimori German Suplex, E just plows through him to break up the pin. Dragon Whip takes E to the floor, Shinsuke charges for the Kinsasha but Kofi stops him with a Double Foot Stomp! Hot tag to Braun and it’s legit pretty damn hot! Runs through his opponents, huge clothesline in the corner on Shinsuke! He bails as the crowd pops, Braun signals for the spin around, and he rushes around ringside to get shoulder blocks in on Shinsuke, then Cesaro, chases Sami around, Nakamura with a flying knee off the steps cuts him off!
Back in the ring, Shinsuke charges, but eats a huge clothesline! Braun picks him up for the Powerslam, Cesaro pulls Shinsuke free, Springboard Uppercut! E drags Cesaro to the floor and drives him into the barricade. Sami Zayn passes Shinsuke Nakamura the pancake platter and distracts the ref, Kofi Kingston grabs the platter away from him, smacks Shinsuke in the head with it, Braun with the Powerslam for the win!
Winners: The New Day & Braun Strowman
Good match, finish makes sense for what we’re doing.
Afterwards, New Day demand Braun’s scary music be cut and goad him into dancing. He stands, frozen… they actively force his hips to jiggle. Braun shoves E to one corner, and Kofi to another. “Get These Hips” chant, Braun looks around the crowd… New Day music hits and Braun is getting jiggy.
Backstage, Sonya is mad about Mandy not being at ringside for her last week, Mandy explains it’s because of Otis sweating on her dress. She then meets with Otis who gives her a fruitcake made by his mom.
Carmella vs. Mandy Rose
Mandy with a snapmare, running knee to the face, crosses the arms across her throat for the straitjacket hold. Mandy pummels Carmella in the corner, but she fights back, spinning headscissors takes Mandy back to the center of the room. Carmella approaches Mandy in the corner, gets tripped into the turnbuckle pads! Mandy with a crucifix for a quick kickout, and another, Oklahoma Roll gets 2, Carmella with a Backslide for 2, Mandy wants the O’Connor Roll but Carmella holds onto the ropes to send her off, superkick outta nowhere for the win!
Winner: Carmella
S’fine, I suppose. They sure aren’t gonna make Mandy into anything by having her lose short matches over and over and having commentary claim she’s a breakout star of 2019 though.
Just looked up some stats because these calls made me curious. Mandy Rose’s last televised win was on September 3rd. This was a tag win with a combo finish. Her last one-on-one victory – and second-to-last win of 2019 – was on May 28th. Breakout star.
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
This is now taking place as a singles match as King Corbin refuses to wrestle. Bryan gets some Yes Kicks early in the corner, Miz avoids one, bails, takes Bryan to the outside and drives him into the barrier. Back into the ring, roundhouse kick ducked, Bryan with a low dropkick, misses a running kick, simultaneous crossbody collision spot. King Corbin’s security hits the ring for the super shocking Double DQ.
Winner: Nobody
Afterwards, Bryan and Miz easily dispense of the henchmen.
Backstage, Corbin claims this was justice as those two shouldn’t be competing for his spot. Says questions should be saved for Roman Reigns, calls him a rabid dog making this an unsafe work environment. He’s told that Roman Reigns has been asked to leave the building. Corbin changes his tune, now says he is willing to work in that triple threat match in that case. Bryan and Miz bleed into the back to attack him.
They really didn’t have a lot planned for this show.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross out on the stage in their seats for A Moment Of Bliss. Alexa lets Nikki introduce Lacey Evans. Alexa commends Lacey for stepping up to Bayley and Sasha Banks, brings up Sasha taunting Lacey’s six year old daughter. They show a replay of what happened. Lacey says her daughter is brave and a fighter just like her. Says last week when she heard her yell ‘Momma’ and she looked up to see Sasha, she snapped. The last thing you do is mess with a mother’s child because a momma bear will protect her cub. There’s nothing she won’t do to stop anyone who gets between her and her baby, and if they didn’t pull her off of Sasha when they did, Sasha would not make it out of this arena. She knows what happens on this kind of thing normally and she won’t sit there and let them attack her from behind. She’s gonna go ahead and get into the ring and get set for a fight.
Lacey and Dana are set to face Bayley and Sasha in a tag match. Dana’s entrance hits, but Banks and Bayley drag her from the stage, saying Lacey might be a good mother but she’s a terrible partner. Lacey races down the ramp and they brawl upon the stage. Refs pull them apart.
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke
As we come back the match has started, Bayley pummels Lacey in the corner. Dana tags in, takes control for a moment, handspring splash meets knees, Bayley takes her to the heel corner, tags and isolation begin. Sasha with shoulder thrusts on Dana. Dana counters a Superplex with a spin into a Snap Suplex for a kickout. Sasha with a hair trip. Bayley tags in, Sasha and Bayley hook Dana’s arms, drive her into the corner. Chinlock. Dana tries to struggle over for the tag. Side headlock takedown for a cover, 2 count, Sasha tags in, Meteora for a nearfall. Dana with an enziguri, simultags, Lacey is a house of fire, spinning neckbreaker on Bayley. Whip reversed, Lacey with a baseball slide to Sasha, takes Bayley down, springing elbow drop, springing bronco buster in the corner.
Lacey up top, salutes, hops and spins for the moonsault, Sasha has to break up the pin! Lacey stares her down, chases her out of the ring, Sasha runs around, into the ring to bait her into the Bayley-to-Belly, surprisingly Dana breaks up the pin! Sasha tags in, Lacey escapes a double suplex, tag to Dana, Sasha ducks a Woman’s Right and it hits Bayley, Dana rushes in and gets put into the Bank Statement for the submission.
Winners: Bayley & Sasha Banks
Decent. Dana continues to get the weakest push of all time but it’s good that Sasha and Bayley are kept as strong as they are.
Dolph Ziggler sees Mandy Rose with her cake. He grabs the cake, says Otis gave one of them to everyone in the locker room. Taste tests it and says someone found a roach in one, puts it down on the floor. Asks what Otis would know about a woman like her, stomps the cake. Corbin then drags him off.
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz vs. King Corbin
Brawl starts as the match gets underway, Bryan with a flying knee off the apron to Miz, Corbin throws Bryan into the barrier, chokes Miz and takes him into the ring. And then they leave it again. Corbin with a clothesline to Bryan, Chokeslam Backbreaker to Miz. Throws Bryan into the ring, crossbody for a nearfall. Miz rushes into the ring, Backbreaker into Neckbreaker combo. Bryan with some Yes Kicks! Bryan with charging dropkicks, Miz with charging knees! Baron with a Deep Six to Miz, Bryan with a missile dropkick to Corbin, commercial. We come back to see Miz and Bryan exchange cradles. Corbin runs in, eats a big boot from Miz, Miz with a Snap DDT to Bryan. Miz with It Kicks to Corbin in the corner. More shots to the thigh.
Miz with a trip into a Figure Four Leglock. Bryan with a Diving Headbutt off the top, Miz pretends he can’t break the hold and frantically flails as Bryan covers, nearfall, Bryan flips Corbin over for the LaBell Lock as the Figure Four is still locked in, which reverses the pressure. Miz breaks up the hold. Miz and Bryan exchange punches, Miz knocks Bryan to the floor. Miz wants the Skull Crushing Finale, Baron reverses it into the End of Days, Bryan breaks up the pin. Bryan escapes an End of Days attempt, Buisaku Knee! Ziggler runs in however, Superkicks Bryan and drags Corbin onto him! Cover, Roman Reigns pulls Corbin out to the floor, Superman Punch! And another for Ziggler! Commercial break.
As we come back we’re told that Roman and Corbin have brawled their way out of the arena, so it’s now a Miz/Bryan singles match again! This is roughly as convoluted as a single night of WWE TV can get. Bryan with a Superplex and keeps hooked in the ropes, spiders his way up top. But Miz cuts him off, takes him off the middle rope with a Flying Shinbreaker, probably destroying his own knee in the process. Miz wants It Kicks but Bryan stops it with a palm strike. Yes Kicks commence. Miz catches one, kneebreaker! Miz hooks Bryan for a Figure Four, Bryan pushes him away, LeBell Lock, Miz fighting it. Miz bites him to escape, but eats a Roundhouse Kick. Bryan gets the Yes chants going, charges for the Buisaku Knee, Miz counters with the Skull Crushing Finale for a nearfall. Hooks him into the Figure Four Leglock. Miz rakes at Bryan’s eyes, Bryan turns the hold into the LaBell Lock… hooks both arms for it to get him caught this time! Lets one arm free just so he can tap out!
Winner: Daniel Bryan
All that sure happened!
Bray comes up on the screen. “Yowie-Wowie you did it! You’re about to have so much fun! But I’m not sure if he’s ready yet… he remembers everything! Are you willing to do everything it takes? Are you willing to let him in?”
Bryan nods. “YES! YES! YES!” And that’s all for tonight.
