Ladies and gentlemen, it is a Friday night and what could you possibly do on a Friday night that’s better than watching WWE SmackDown? Name one thing! Eh… well anyway, I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, here to give you the previews. I’m a little slow on the draw at the moment, judging by how there’s only fifteen minutes until show time here, so let’s speed things up!
WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro (Non-title)
Last month, Shinsuke and Cesaro answered an open challenge from Big E and Kofi to challenge for their tag team titles, only to come up short in a predictably very good match. Since then however they’ve rebounded, defeating Heavy Machinery last week. With no contenders really jumping out for the WWE Intercontinental title, it would appear that Shinsuke’s setting his sights on becoming a dual champion.
I imagine this will also be a very good match of course, and seeing as the plans for Shinsuke went belly-up (he was meant to be challenged by Braun Strowman, which considering the teased tandem of Strowman and Tyson Fury might’ve eventually escalated into a tag match with Shinsuke and Cesaro later on) I wouldn’t be too surprised if this is now the direction for the group. After all, with the Revival seemingly defeated for good and Bobby Roode suspended, this is legit the top heel team left for New Day to face.
With that in mind, I’d think that we’ll be moving past non-title bouts and going to tag title matches fairly soon. So I’ll say that Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro get the win here, to set up future title matches going forward. With any luck, the groups can feud long enough for Xavier to return to TV and we can get a dueling managers thing going, I feel like the promos between those two would be a lot of fun.
