I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and WWE SmackDown has gone off the air. I was as always here with you to give the results of the show as they came. After much ado, a ton of rigmarole, and WWE trying very hard to convince us that their announced main event was not the actual main event… the main event happened. It was, of course, the triple threat match that was announced last week, pitting King Corbin against The Miz and Daniel Bryan for a shot at the Fiend Bray Wyatt’s WWE Universal Championship at the 2020 Royal Rumble.
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
As we come back we’re told that Roman and Corbin have brawled their way out of the arena, so it’s now a Miz/Bryan singles match again! This is roughly as convoluted as a single night of WWE TV can get. Bryan with a Superplex and keeps hooked in the ropes, spiders his way up top. But Miz cuts him off, takes him off the middle rope with a Flying Shinbreaker, probably destroying his own knee in the process. Miz wants It Kicks but Bryan stops it with a palm strike. Yes Kicks commence. Miz catches one, kneebreaker! Miz hooks Bryan for a Figure Four, Bryan pushes him away, LeBell Lock, Miz fighting it. Miz bites him to escape, but eats a Roundhouse Kick. Bryan gets the Yes chants going, charges for the Buisaku Knee, Miz counters with the Skull Crushing Finale for a nearfall. Hooks him into the Figure Four Leglock. Miz rakes at Bryan’s eyes, Bryan turns the hold into the LaBell Lock… hooks both arms for it to get him caught this time! Lets one arm free just so he can tap out!
Winner: Daniel Bryan
It had a neat moment or two but for the most part was just kind of there to me. I think the two false starts for this match earlier in the night stifled interest in it somewhat. But ultimately, the finish that everyone expected and was easily the correct one ended up coming to pass. Bryan got the win and will now be challenging the Fiend for the Universal Championship once again, this time sans his hair. Effectively they will be finishing their angle with a big blowoff on the big stage that is the 2020 Royal Rumble. I can’t really see it going on past then.
