AEW Dynamite rolls on as Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N Wrestling Rager At Sea Part Deux: Second Wave continues! We start with a vignette showing off the scenario that’s unfolded between MJF and Cody Rhodes. It details how the stipulations came to be that MJF has forced onto Cody just to get him to accept a match.
We now see MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) coming out to face off with Joey Janela! MJF gets a lengthy entrance thanks to the commercial break inset where he is giving it to everyone at ringside, including poor Justin Roberts. Joey on the other hand comes out with pure Road Dogg hair. Got it braided so the wind doesn’t bother him.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. Joey Janela
Lock-up, Max throws him across the ring and yells at the crowd. Wristlock, Joey rolls through, arm wringer. Max reverses, side headlock, headscissor to escape, Joey kips up and they stand off! Max offers his hand. More lewd censored chants as TNT doesn’t like fun. Joey slaps the hand away, Max spits in his face! Joey with a ton of shots, whip to the ropes, Max holds the ropes to stop and bails out to the ramp! He’s making his way up as the crowd boos! Janela follows, gets a rake to the eyes! Max knocks him back towards the ring. Runs for a clothesline but Janela counters with a back body drop into the ring! Joey up top! Max rolls out of the way though, Joey has to drop down. Max using Aubrey Edwards as a human shield in the corner!
Joey helps her out of the way but Max nails him with a wicked right hand! Power whip, Janela crashes into the buckle! MJF stomps Janela into the corner. Bodyslam, half senton for a nearfall as the commercial break inset begins. Max with an elbow to the back of the head, waistlock ensues! Joey punches his way up, hits the ropes – Max gets him with an Argentine Backbreaker! Flexes, nearfall. Stomp to the ankle. Inset disappears as Max keeps working him over.
We come back to see Janela nail Max with a superplex! That was a little sudden, nearfall! Joey Janela goes up top! Wants his big elbow drop… but out comes Kip Sabian along with Penelope Ford! They’re dressed for the beach and make out on the stage. Janela goes for the elbow drop, Max rolls out of the way and he crashes and burns. Double-Cross for the win!
Winner: MJF
Solid enough stuff. Afterwards, Max grabs a mic. Jabs at the crowd before calling out Cody Rhodes. Notes how Cody said MJF was just a chapter in his book. Max says for once in his life, he was right! He is a chapter – the last one!
Cody’s music hits! Out he comes and Max looks a little baffled. Max demands they cut his music, everyone chanting “Cody”! Max reminds us all that Cody can’t touch him. He goes into the ring anyway and they nearly come chest to chest as Maxwell tells him no matter what he says or does, he can’t lay a hand on him. And he’s so sorry about that. But since he’s such a good guy he’s gonna give him the room. Hands him the mic… but nah, drops it to the mat. Cody bends to pick it up and MJF just kicks it across the canvas. Beckons for him to punch him but Cody just goes for the mic again. Crowd chants “Asshole”. Cody points this out.
Cody then says that Max is right, he can’t touch him. Young Bucks sneak up behind Max! You F*cked Up chant! Stereo Superkick to Maxwell! Cody asks if we should throw him into the pool! Cheap pop!!! Bucks drag Maxwell over! He takes an enormous bump into the drink! Flails madly in the water, beautiful stuff! I was genuinely hoping for that, so much. Chant of “He Can’t Swim”!
