We have another edition of Friday Night SmackDown to look forward to here tonight, featuring Sheamus taking on Shorty G in a Royal Rumble pre-show rematch! My name is Jordan Huie, glad to have you here with us at the Overtimer where you can expect the same coverage as always for the show here this evening! We have four matches to look forward to this evening, not a particularly common thing for a weekly WWE show. So I’ll be sure to take advantage of that and give you the previews for each one! So let’s get it started with…
Sheamus vs. Shorty G
As said above, this is a rematch from the 2020 Royal Rumble kickoff show. For the past few weeks, Sheamus has made it a point to go after Shorty as it turns out that, like everyone else who feuds with him, he too believes that it is not okay to be a short person. Atleast, not a short person who also wrestles. Nevermind the fact that in a real fight, smart money would probably be on the Olympic-caliber wrestler…
When the pair met a few days ago, Shorty G did have control for a decent part of the match and towards the end in particular, really looked like he was going to score the win. This would’ve been a mild upset given the respective careers the two have had, the size differential and the fact that it was Sheamus’ first night back after several weeks of hype vignettes. It would’ve been pretty unlike WWE for Shorty G to win, after all. And true to form, Sheamus did end up picking up the win, when one of his many blind out of the blue Brogue Kicks finally landed.
It wasn’t exactly a cheap or dirty finish, but it was easy enough to tell that things weren’t concluding that way. Feuds just don’t usually end on pre-shows. And the same holds true here, as they’re quick to go right back to this match here tonight. The law of 50/50 is ringing loudly in my head right now. One thing that gives me pause is, how long is the Corbin/Reigns feud continuing? Roman just beat him this past weekend but they’re facing off yet again tonight. Is is over after tonight? If so, Sheamus is likely as a guy that Roman would have to beat en route to facing the Fiend, which by all rights still seems to be the plan. This distinct possibility makes me say Sheamus over.
