As we start on the road to Wrestlemania, we begin to see how the card is shaping up. People are predicting matches like Roman Reigns vs. The Fiend & Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre, but one person who is sure to find his way onto the card is the current King of The Ring. This is of course Baron Corbin.
He has remained a fixture of WWE since he left NXT back in 2016 and won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 32. Since then, he has won several accolades, including the United States Championship, Money In The Bank, and of course King of The Ring. There is no scenario where he is left off Wrestlemania, barring a serious injury sidelining him.
King vs. King
While Jerry Lawler recently stated that WWE isn’t wanting him to get physical after he took a heart attack on live TV, him emphasizing the point makes people skeptical. A match between two kings of wrestling would be a great undercard match for Wrestlemania, and sadly I don’t mean a match between Cesaro & Kassius Ohno. Baron Corbin vs. Jerry Lawler would be a match that could even act as Jerry Lawlers official retirement match for WWE, much like how Corbin retired Kurt Angle at his past years event.
Corbin in that match with Angle proved he’s safe enough to work with more fragile opponents, and despite being 70 years old, Jerry Lawler is a solid wrestler with his time proven safe style. So long as he can stomp, punch, and maybe tease Piledriver? Jerry Lawler can work his style. The promos alone on the build to a match like this would make it an interesting feud to fill some time on Smackdown on the way to Wrestlemania.
Trouble In Baron Corbins Kingdom
Another plausible, if not a bit disappointing option, would be someone who has been involved with Baron Corbin as an ally. We could see Corbin get frustrated with Ziggler failing to put away Roman Reigns and have him attack his underling. They have a history of matches together, with Ziggler being Corbins first major test when he joined the main roster back in 2016. Corbin would win their feud at Money in The Bank 2016, so it has been a few years since they’ve had a major feud. They are proven opponents, and would be sure to give a solid matchup at the biggest show of the year.
Who do you think Baron Corbin will face at Wrestlemania later this year? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section down below, and stay tuned as the card for Wrestlemania becomes more clear.
