The only thing that changes more than the mind of Vince McMahon lately has been the commentary team of Monday Night RAW. Initially after the draft, it was the team of Vic Joseph, Dio Maddin and Jerry Lawler. Dio Maddin was taken off after he was mauled by Brock Lesnar so hard that he vanished back to NXT, then was replaced by Samoa Joe. Samoa Joe would leave to rejoin the RAW roster as people band together to take on Seth Rollins, Authors of Pain, and Buddy Murphy. Now Vic Joseph is being pushed off the team in favor of Tom Phillips. Meanwhile, Smackdown has stayed steady as Micheal Cole & Corey Graves call the action without changes.
Tom Phillips Might Be The Best Commentator In WWE
While Micheal Cole has the decades of experience, and Mauro Ranallo is loud and bombastic, Tom Phillips has proven to knock it out of the park whenever he is able to get a shot. Originally coming up through NXT, his teaming with Corey Graves received great reviews as they would call matches to perfection. While we have seen them work on occasion on RAW & Smackdown, having a third man never truly worked out for them. Phillips after the draft was mainly heard on NXT UK, and lent his voice to the Worlds Collide event this past Saturday.
RAW Needs A Steady Voice
With Monday Night RAW still being WWE’s flagship program, it is odd that they refuse to settle on a steady voice for the show. While Jerry Lawler can fill this role, being a very nostalgic voice, you need more than just one person to remain steady. Looking into the past of RAW, a bulk of it was called by the team of Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler, who with the time provided were able to build near unmatched chemistry. With the constant changes, there has been no change to let commentary gain that chemistry to take the commentary from good to great. Hopefully they will settle on the team of Jerry Lawler & Tom Phillips for a while, and they can find their voice as a team to give RAW something consistent.
Do you hope this is one of the final times the RAW announce team will change for a while? Do you like tuning in to hear different voices on a weekly basis? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
