AEW Women’s World Championship: Nyla Rose (c) vs. Kris Statlander
It was merely a few weeks ago that Nyla Rose took on Riho, in a rematch from AEW Dynamite’s October 2nd premiere. A date I may well never forget. The two stole the show on that night, I will always say this, having been there live. And they did the same again when they met for the gold once more, a clash that in many ways topped the original. Their chemistry was off the charts and made it very hard to deny the merit in Nyla’s title win, unexpected on the night though it may have been.
Now, Nyla defends against Kris Statlander. I have a feeling that we were supposed to get a Swole/Statlander bout on this past Dynamite to set this match up. This was pretty heavily teased the week before, after all. But Kris went down with the flu for much of the past week and didn’t end up being able to make it. So they went ahead and announced the match they wanted anyway – Kris has had a lot more on-screen success than Swole so it works out just fine really.
Kris is another in the long line who have connected with the audience no matter how much some feel like they shouldn’t. And this is very good, because the alien weirdo also happens to be a fantastic athlete. Sure, she’s young and as such can be a little inconsistent. But I’ve seen enough to know that when she’s on, her matches can be pretty damn special. Here’s hoping she’s on tonight, I’d love to see her prove herself on the big stage here. That said, no way in Hell is Nyla’s reign being cut short after like two weeks. Nyla Rose to retain.
