In the buy in for AEW Revolution, fans saw Colt Cabana run in and make the save after Dark Order members Evil Uno & Stu Greyson defeated S.C.U in a tag team match. He would help even the odds, further helped by Christopher Daniels. This got an incredible reaction from the crowd in Chicago, with Cabana being a hometown talent. Colt left Ring of Honor following Final Battle 2019 where he wrestled a final match with Alex Shelley, and has been working as a free agent ever since. Cabana previously appeared for AEW as a guest commentator for AEW Dark, and has now been confirmed to have signed to the company by AEW owner Tony Khan.
Colt Cabana Is A Major Signing, Onscreen and Off
“Colt’s working here. Colt does a variety of things. He already started as an announcer, now he’s going to be working as a wrestler and he’s debuted in a situation where I can definitely see Colt wrestling for us on a regular basis, and he can chip in as a commentator and also as a coach. He’s a really valuable mind. He is signed here. He can work, at my discretion, like a lot of people who sign here, Colt can work other places, but yeah, he’s signed here.”
This confirms both his work with AEW, and that he will likely still be working for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he is part of a tag team with fellow comedy mastermind Toru Yano. With his years of experience wearing many hats in companies like Ring Of Honor, Colt Cabana is quietly one of the best signings AEW could make at this point in their lifespan.
A Potential Major Contender
While he is a very goofy individual, any opponent who overlooks Cabana is in for a rough time. A former NWA Heavyweight Champion, he is one of the smoothest technical wrestlers around, and often combines comedy antics with British style grappling to excellent effect. He is a tag team specialist as well, most notably winning two ROH Tag Team Championships with CM Punk. He is a top wrestler still, and very realistically could become a major contender for either at AEW Championship held by Jon Moxley, or the AEW Tag Team Championships held by Hangman Page & Kenny Omega.
