WWE Friday Night SmackDown continues, following that tag team match. Backstage, Kofi Kingston and Robert Roode come eye-to-eye in an intense staredown. They will face off next!
Robert Roode vs. Kofi Kingston
Big “Kofi” chant as the two of them have some chain wrestling to begin with. Arm wringer locked in. Roode gets Kofi in the corner, feigns a clean break but gives him a boot in the gut. Kofi fights back, Standing Dropkick nailed. Arm wringer, Roode grabs the ropes, back elbow off the clean break. Kofi fights back, gets a few leap frogs in, Leaping Spinning Elbow! Roode bails, E screams at him. Ziggler gets on the apron and distracts the referee. Roode turns and kicks the steps, feigning like he’s just been thrown into them. The referee turns around and ejects Big E, some decent heat for the dirty trick. Commercial break.
As we come back, Roode has Kofi in a side headlock. Mandy Rose is watching from backstage. Roode pulls Kofi to his feet, whip to the corner, Kofi counters with a bottom rope dropkick! Comeback gets cutoff quickly though, Gutwrench Suplex. Roode to the second rope, mocks the New Day’s clap, Middle Rope Kneedrop is avoided, Roode crashes and burns! Kofi slips to the apron, Springboard Clothesline, blade chops, standing dropkick! Hits the ropes, flying clothesline! Hits the ropes, big chant of “New Day” for the Boom Drop! Gets the people clapping along as he goes for the Trouble In Paradise, Roode ducks it, kick to the gut, sends him to the corner but a Springboard Crossbody reverses this, for a veeeeery close nearfall.
Kofi pulls Roode up, he fights back, SOS reversed into a Full Nelson Slam for a nearfall! Roode takes Kofi up top. Pursues and hooks for a superplex, Kingston fighting back, headbutt sends him to the mat. Kofi stands atop the rope, flies at him, Roode ducks, Kofi rolls through, charges right into a Spinebuster for a nearfall! Roode now stalking for the Glorious DDT, Kofi blocks it, SOS nailed but Ziggler gets Roode’s boot on the bottom rope for the break! Boos as Kofi argues with Dolph, off the distraction Roode rolls him up for the cheap win.
Winner: Robert Roode
That was alright, the E ejection was a neat little moment but I’m not really sure what Roode’s being built for. Mandy and Sonya seem somewhat impressed with Ziggler backstage.
