Big news today in wrestling, as Matt Hardy’s long awaited Free The Delete episode 10 was released. The series has detailed another saga in the Broken Universe which seems to be based around deleting and burying the persona of Broken/Woken Matt Hardy for good and moving on to whatever incarnation Matt is destined to become in the future. This episode is much shorter than the others, less than two minutes long, but it’s safe to say that it reveals a lot.
It’d take a lot to explain all that’s gone on in this series, but in simplest possible terms – there’s a deity named Zenith and he is what allows Matt to become Broken in the first place. But over the course of the series, Zenith becomes infected with a terminal illness of sorts. By the time we reach this episode, the time has come for Zenith’s demise.
Episode 9 ended with Matt Hardy making a phone call to an unknown party and asking them for help. This episode opened and immediately make things much clearer. “You two are the only ones who ever managed to remove Zenith from my body” he said. This is a callback to Matt’s last match before re-joining WWE in 2017, in which he and Jeff had a ladder match against the Young Bucks. A crazy high spot in this match would later be cited as the reason Matt was no longer Broken upon immediate entry into the WWE. This was of course since rectified with his Woken persona but that’s another story…
This ties directly into the latest episode of Being The Elite.
During the episode largely centered around the behind-the-scenes at Revolution, the ending saw Matt Jackson receiving a mysterious phone call of his own, one noted as being from the North Carolina area code. Whilst the details were not explained, it was made clear that they’d have to make a stop there. Many connected the dots here but today it’s been confirmed that these two calls were one in the same.
The call concluded with Matt asking the Bucks to come to his compound and remove Zenith for good, and bury them together. Matt Hardy began making preparations, as per the episode title, building his own cross and digging a grave for himself. Then, just to fully cement the crossover, we saw a familiar SUV pulling up to the Hardy Compound and out the Bucks stepped. “The Bucks of Youth… I knew you’d come.” was the final line in the brief but revealing video.
Matt Hardy’s WWE contract expired at the start of the month and he has no non-compete clause.
He made implications that he’d be watching everything wrestling this week to see where he was best suited creatively. However it’s pretty clear that his plan has been set for a while. It couldn’t really be a coincidence that this episode aired today – the first day he could conceivably appear at an AEW event. Whether he’ll appear on Dynamite tonight is but speculation but it would not be at all shocking given this turn of events.
