Matt Hardy is a name we all know to some extent. Some of us watched him and his brother Jeff grow up from a new tag team to one of the best in the world. Others know him more for his singles work when the Hardy Boyz split up a couple of times. Oh, we can also add troll to his list of endeavors since he’s been trolling AEW and the WWE so well lately while toying with fans.
However we know him, he’s left an indelible memory that’ll stay with us.
Just got home & turned on Wednesday Night Wrestling to do some scouting..
Which show do your prefer tonight?#WWENXT or #AEWonTNT

His contract status with WWE
It’s no secret that Matt Hardy’s contract with WWE ends March 1 (Sunday) and he’ll be a free agent. What’s not so clear is whether or not he’ll resign after unofficially being labeled a jobber. He’s spoken out on it and so has his wife.
After a brief resurgence where he and Jeff won the Smackdown Tag Team Championship in 2019, he’s been buried in the mid-card ranks and has become an afterthought to many. In fact, that’s the main reason he’s stated for not resigning with the WWE. He recently said that it’s not the money, it’s the sitting around and not doing something that gets to him.
So, where could he go?

The Dark Order calling?
As previously reported here, there’s been a fan theory that Matt is the real head of the Dark Order. He just needs to leave the WWE, and with his contract a couple of days away from ending, he may be looking to make the jump.
And he hasn’t been quiet about it as he’s toyed with fans and trolled both the WWE and AEW with various social media posts. One of his most recent had him weighing staying in WWE and going to NXT like some rumors claimed or going to AEW. A brief exchange with Chris Jericho hinted at a friendly rivalry, with Jericho throwing shade on him.
Another possible sign was how on Wednesday’s Dynamite, the Dark Order seemed to cast aside their pursuit of Chris Daniels in favor of someone else, finishing with the word “Obsolete,” which Matt uses in his current gimmick.
It’s been nothing but fun going back and forth about what he’ll do and where he’ll go, but this seems more likely than not.
And with his brother Jeff Hardy rumored to return to the ring soon, it’ll be an interesting choice for fans if Jeff is pushed to the top level and allowed to have his own faction. Hardy versus Hardy, WWE versus AEW. Which side will win; which side do you choose?
