We’re still marching through Major League Wrestling’s MLW Fusion to catch up to #100. Fusion #99 was an eventful episode with all tag matches. On this episode, you have a six-man bout, a high flyers’ showdown, and a lumberjack match that continues the Promociones Dorada-CONTRA Unit feud. This is the first MLW Fusion episode taking matches from Major League Wrestling’s Fightland show on February 1.
Let’s look at the card for the episode.
MLW Fusion #99
Dynasty vs. Mance Warner, Savio Vega, & Logan Creed
Injustice vs. Zenshi & Laredo Kid
Lumberjack Match: CONTRA Unit vs. Los Parks
The show kicks off with color commentator AJ Kirsch being interrupted by Dynasty. MJF has since gone to AEW full time so now it’s just Richard Holliday, Alexander Hammerstone, and Gino Medina. Holliday tells the AJ and the Philly crowd that it’s time for Rich Talk—meaning Dynasty trashes the crowd.
Konnan comes out once his name was brought up by Hammerstone. After a couple of roasting Dynasty, Konnan notices Hammerstone getting a chair and has his slapjack ready. He never goes anywhere without his slapjack, people. Holliday points out that Konnan is outnumbered only for Ol’ Mancer, Savio, and Logan Creed to come out.
They all have beef with Dynasty. Ol’ Mancer gets on Dynasty’s nerves, Creed walked out on the group and sided with Mance Warner, and Savio Vega’s Caribbean title was stolen by Richard Holliday. Mancer tells Dynasty they can pop the top on a match right now and our opening bout is underway!
Dynasty vs. Mance Warner, Savio Vega, & Logan Creed
Fast-paced brawl to kick off MLW Fusion. I mean, you shouldn’t be getting a well put together technical showcase for an impromptu bout. Oh no, Dynasty has a bit of a mix of talent on its side but Ol’ Mance’s team are all brawlers. If this match had more time, it would’ve been wild. The highlight of the match was pretty much Creed’s dive to the outside.
Yes, Creed still resembles a stretched out mash-up of Goldust and MVP with this gear. If he stays with Major League Wrestling, I could see him being the company’s Mike Awesome. A feud with him and Mance Warner or Jimmy Havoc could be good in the future.
This match ends after that dive to the outside when Savio goes to pull Holliday back into the ring and gets blasted with his own Caribbean title! Holliday gets the quick pin. Konnan pops Gino in the back of the head with the slapjack while Dynasty is celebrating their “victory.”
Dynasty def. Mance Warner, Savio Vega (L), & Logan Creed via cradle
After Dynasty escapes the ring, Konnan’s allies return and Ol’ Mance hands everyone a light beer to celebrate. Like…they lost but what the hell, crack ‘em if you got ‘em.
Injustice vs. Zenshi & Laredo Kid
I don’t know if Major League Wrestling decided to cut back on the promotion a bit for MLW Fusion but the show moved right into the next segment. Injustice shows up to talk some trash and are targeting Konnan.
One of the reasons Konnan is being featured so much on this episode is because he made his ECW debut at 2300 Arena 25 years ago. Injustice doesn’t care about any of that and member Jordan Oliver gets roasted by Konnan. It looks like Injustice might make a move when Brian Pillman Jr. comes out with a chair! A match is set up as Injustice members Kotto Brazil and Jordan Oliver takes on the team of Laredo Kid and Zenshi.
These two teams are flyers and it was as you probably imagined it. Lots of kicks, sequences, and dives. The match ends after Zenshi, feeling that momentum was on his team’s side tried to follow up with an attack on Kotto Brazil only to end up captured by the Injustice member and whipped into Oliver who buries a boot in his mush. Kotto restricts him with a crucifix and Oliver finishes him off with a slingshot Stunner.
Injustice def. Zenshi (L) & Laredo Kid via Crucifix/Slingshot Stunner combo
There was one moment early on when a Zenshi shooting star off the apron looked clean but the landing was a little sloppy as Laredo Kid was still on the ground outside from his dive. Other than that, the heel and tag team tactics of Injustice was the glue here.
Zenshi really shined in this bout in a way he didn’t when facing Dominic Garrini, Kid was good, and Injustice is a strong team as usual.
Promos!
We get another interview with Team Filthy targeting the Von Erichs and trashing Texas. Nice. Promo with CONTRA Unit and Los Parks stating that tonight’s main event will be a tag team war! Injustice finally gets their hands on a camera and tells Brian Pillman Jr. to stay out of their business.
On MLW Fusion #100, Havoc faces Pillman who is now in the middleweight division. He tells Pillman to be careful in their match or he might get hit with Acid Rain. Oh yeah, Priscilla Kelly was with him. Finally, the Von Erichs are spoiling for a fight with Team Filthy. That should be a good showdown once the two sides finally clash.
AAA rudo star Pagano is scheduled to make his MLW debut at Intimidation Games. Expect him on MLW Fusion next month. King Mo is backstage with his manager and says “F*** Low Ki.” in response to a question about the former MLW World champion.
Lumberjack Match: CONTRA Unit vs. Los Parks
Finally, the main event! CONTRA Unit is represented by manager/wrestler Josef Samael and Simon Gotch in this lumberjack match. Los Parks has a simple but cool entrance. It’s just a red light but those entrance jackets are pretty badass.
CONTRA Unit attacks them during their ring pose and this match is underway! The match starts out with an unruly brawl before it becomes more of a run-of-the-mill tag match. I noticed that the crowd wasn’t dead for the early part of the match but they weren’t as hype as they had been earlier. Then again, this match came later on Fightland.
The crowd gets into the bout once things swing in CONTRA Unit’s favor as Samael and Gotch beat up El Hijo de L.A Park. The elder Park tries to get in but the ref cuts him off. Once Gotch chucks Young Park to the outside, we notice that the lumberjacks are mostly babyfaces. The only heels are there are Injustice and they’re quickly put in their place.
Gotch catches a backstabber from a recovering El Hijo de L.A Park! Both partners are tagged in and L.A Park is just a tank putting down both members of CONTRA Unit. He goes for his spear on Gotch—who steps aside and allows him to spear Josef Samael! Park has a really good spear, I’m impressed.
The spike that Samael had ends up in El Hijo de L.A Park’s hands and he catches it to the throat like McDonald’s Sprite! This match ends with Hijo moonsaulting to the outside and onto Simon Gotch and some lumberjacks while L.A Park catches Samael with his corkscrew senton for the pin.
Los Parks def. CONTRA Unit via Corkscrew Senton
Must-Watch from MLW Fusion #99: Injustice vs. Zenshi & Laredo Kid
This was the bout to check out. It was exciting, everyone impressed, and it has enough razzle-dazzle without floating into full-blown spotfest. The runner up would be the main event lumberjack match. Check out the show below and the card for MLW Fusion #100.
