In recent years, we have seen many MMA fighters make the transition into professional wrestlers. Some like Matt Riddle & Ronda Rousey have found huge success, while others like Cain Velasquez were quickly sidelined with injures. With his old rival Tito Ortiz having begun training at the WWE Performance Center, Chuck Liddell has reportedly shown interest in making a professional wrestling debut.
Chuck Liddell Has Officially Retired From Mixed Martial Arts
After a lengthy career in the Octogon, Liddell recently hung up his gloves after losing six of his last seven fights. At 50 years old, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion realized it was his time, but where he remains in good shape, wants to stay in the public eye. An easy way to do that when you have name recognition is by having a guest role in a company like WWE. Liddell might not be a huge name now, but MMA fans will still recognize him as he was huge during his prime as a fighter. He leaves MMA with a positive record of 21 wins and 9 losses over his career, and is credited with helping bring the sport to mainstream attention.
Shane McMahon Wants To Bring Him In
When he isn’t being announced as the Best In The World, Shane McMahon works behind the scenes for WWE, and has some pull with the company. Because of this, we could see this actually happen as he has also expressed interested in bringing ‘The Iceman’ in. Speaking with TMZ Sports, Shane said the following. “I know Chuck very well; all he has to do is give me a ring, Of course, I’d love to do that with Chuck.”
Would They Pair Him With Ortiz As A Tag Team?
Having two old rivals of the octagon together to bring the hurt to WWE superstars might be the best angle if they are both serious about joining the company. The WWE tag team division has often been an afterthought as far as special attractions, and they could do much worse than two retired MMA legends. Tag team wrestling would also allow them to cover any weaknesses and extend any possible career, as major singles matches are more taxing on a performers body.
