Last night at Elimination Chamber, a fun show was capped off with the women’s Elimination Chamber match. This saw Shayna Baszler, Asuka, Nataylya, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan battle it out for the chance to face Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania. Despite being one of the most chaotic match types in WWE history, it was one of the shortest and least interesting matches of it’s type. It had fans getting up to leave early to beat the traffic.
What Went Wrong?
This match always had one purpose on the road to Wrestlemania. It was to make Shayna Baszler look like an absolute killer ahead of her Wrestlemania match with Becky Lynch. This was accomplished in this match, as Shayna looked more unstoppable than Goldberg in his prime. She entered the match fourth, and would quickly eliminate everyone in the ring with her signature choke. Liv Morgan would enter the match to the same fate after a few minutes of Shayna walking around with nothing to do. After disposing of Liv, we got the same thing as we waited for Asuka to enter the match. The most exciting part of the whole match was Asuka vs. Shayna despite being brief. This set up made for a match that simply didn’t excite fans, and it was easily avoidable.
Shayna Baszler Should Have Entered The Match Last
While fans still would have had some backlash on the winner, the main issue was that the pacing of this match was absolutely horrible. There was long moments of nothing happening, which is something you don’t want in your main event, especially in a chaotic match like Elimination Chamber. WWE still could have had Shayna eliminate everyone, but wouldn’t it have been so much better if she came in last and picked off weakened opponents one by one? It would have made her look like just as much of a badass, but also saved the pacing of the match as the other five women could have had an action packed match up until this point.
This is twice now that Shayna has won in main events fans deemed boring, with the last being at Survivor Series. Her slow methodical pace is not suited to what main roster crowds want from their matches, and that could be her downfall. Do you think Vince is right to have soured on Shayna already after this let down of a main event match? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
