While WWE is powering on with Wrestlemania, they are only taking the risk for their biggest show in the calendar year. With the timeline for an all-clear unsure at best, they don’t want to let the builds for matches like Edge vs. Randy Orton die out, but they have went ahead and pushed NXT Takeover & the annual Hall Of Fame ceremony back to a yet unannounced date. Their official statement was as followed. “The WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and NXT TakeOver will not take place as previously scheduled. We will share further details as they become available.”
Will We See The Planned NXT Takeover Matches Over The Next Few Weeks?
The first show for WWE that made it’s presence in the WWE Performance Center is NXT, and they have confirmed that it will remain live into April from the Performance Center. There hasn’t been much build for NXT Takeover Tampa, with the only matches with a clear picture being Johnny Gargano facing Tomassao Ciampa one last time & Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT Championship. They started to announce names for a ladder match to name a Number One Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, with Chelsea Green, Mia Yim & Tegan Nox getting in.
These are all matches we could see happen instead as part of the weekly NXT shows. Ciampa & Gargano have already shown they can make great use of their surroundings with their wild brawl on last Wednesday’s episode. Adam Cole & Velveteen Dream can also be used to give fans at home a fantastic match and moment to get excited about, provided Dream becomes champion. These are huge matches, don’t get me wrong, but they aren’t vital to do at an NXT Takeover event. Big matches happen all the time for free with NXT, these wouldn’t be out of place and could help get eyes on the Black & Gold brand once again.
Hall Of Fame Can Happen Anytime
While most of the class of 2020 have been announced, with stars like nWo (Hogan, Nash, Hall and X-Pac), Batista, Bella Twins, British Bulldog and Jushin Thunder Liger getting the spotlight, this is an event WWE can push back as much as needed. People want to see these superstars honored, but the Hall Of Fame is not a must see event with a huge build behind it.
