In case you needed more proof we are living in the weirdest possible timeline in 2020, WWE just made a huge announcement about their biggest show of the year. It will not take place in a huge stadium this year due to COVID-19, it won’t take place even in a hockey arena. Not even a bingo hall can house this event. There was only one option left for WWE, and that is the WWE Performance Center.
WWE Has Made This Official
While seeing NXT from the performance center felt normal enough, and Smackdown & RAW will work well enough, it is hard to imagine Wrestlemania from this venue, but that is what WWE is going to do. Their official statement on the matter is the following.
“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”
This are such bizarre circumstances, and you best believe this is going to be one of the weirdest Wrestlemanias we will ever see. Documentaries will look back on this moment as a brave choice by WWE, but in the moment it will be just weird to see.
Wrestlemania 9 Will No Longer Be The Lowest Drawing
Wrestlemania 9 drew in a moderate 16,891 fans, which is very low for an event as big as Wrestlemania. This year, that record will be beat as there will likely be no fans present come April 5th. While the option of pushing the show back until everything blew over was what everyone thought WWE was going to do, instead the show must go on. Fans are joking that despite having no crowd, they will still announce a new record breaking crowd.
The Fat Will Be Trimmed
While there have been plenty of matches built and teased for this event, we will likely not be seeing a 7 hour show like the past few years. Without the huge stadium entrances, we will be seeing much less filler on these events. We won’t see annual matches like the huge battle royales, just important matches like the World Title bouts and feuds like Edge vs. Randy Orton.
