For weeks now, fans have been treated to purely taped content from All Elite Wrestling. They had taped enough content to give them time to figure out a new solution, using the Nightmare Factory gym in Georgia to do so. However, as the taped content begins to dwindle, they are looking at what is next. It has been announced that they will be going back to doing shows live again as of May 6th, 2020. Is this a smart move?
Professional Wrestling Is Essential In Florida
Because of the influence of WWE owner Vince McMahon, professional wrestling has been deemed as an essential business within the state of Florida. This will benefit All Elite Wrestling as well, as their home place is located within Jacksonville, using an arena owned by AEW owner Tony Khan. This allows them to have an easy place to set up and do more shows, especially now that WWE has made things easier for them. Vince McMahon walked over hot coals, all so Tony Khan could follow in his steps.
Will AEW Do Another Batch Taping?
The world is still under seige by COVID-19, making everything more complicated to work around with something like professional wrestling. People have been making it work however, with the most effective measure being batch tapings. This allows the show to go on, while minimizing the risk taken by the performers and staff, as it is nearly impossible to maintain proper social distancing while having a wrestling match.
Despite this, both AEW and WWE have went back to doing their weekly TV programs live. WWE has been taping content in order to only bring talent in once every two weeks for shows like NXT, RAW & Smackdown, and AEW would be smart to do the same. Batch taping would be the smartest approach, they have only confirmed one live episode of Dynamite, so they might have something big planned for that, but will then do another two day taping marathon to hold them off until Double Or Nothing.
The next PPV is still planned to happen on May 23rd, but it will likely be an empty arena event. If nothing else, this new approach should allow for a roster refresh, as AEW has been making due with a very small group, only around 30% of their whole roster.
Do you think AEW will get the same flack as WWE for endangering their performers by returning to doing their weekly show live? Should all wrestling either be cancelled or batch taped? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
