AEW Dynamite continues. Cody takes on Shawn Spears in the TNT Championship tournament in the main event but first, Brodie Lee out here for another exhibition.
Brodie Lee vs. Lee Johnson
Brodie with a couple of driving big boots! Very athletic Hilo is nailed! Hoists him up, spins into a Black Hole Slam, just brutal! And then a gigantic Discus Clothesline gets him the easy win.

Afterwards, Brodie scans the wrestling crowd and gets in Marko’s face. Once again he’s not cowering in front of the big man and just waves him off.
We then get a special highlight reel of Shawn Spears vs. Cody from AEW All Out this past August. Now their rematch is up next!
TNT Championship Tournament: Cody vs. Shawn Spears
Tentative lock-up, into the corner, Cody reverses into a side headlock takedown for a cover for 1. Spears escapes into the ropes to force a break. Spears slowly re-enters the ring. Waistlock, Cody breaks it but Spears with a knee to the gut, knife edge chop to the chest! And another big one in the corner! Whip to another corner, Cody avoids the charge into a sunset flip for a 2 count, wants the Figure Four but Spears escapes and bails out of the ring and a Tornado Warning is in effect in my area. Lovely. It’s actually not even in my area it’s in Arkansas. I do not live in Arkansas. I have no idea why it’s interrupting.
When we come back, Spears reverses a whip into the corner but Cody floats over, kick to the face, cover for 2. Stomp to the face. Goes up top, twisting moonsault but Spears rolls out of the way and he crashes into the mat! Spears hoists Cody up for a brutal piledriver! Takes a moment to get the cover, earns him a nearfall. Takes him to the outside, Spinning Neckbreaker onto the floor as we go to the commercial break. We come back to see Spears chopping Cody in one corner, power whip into the opposite! Takes Cody to the floor, rips off the covering of the guard rail and grabs it! Leans it against the apron, Cody fighting back! Cody wants to front suplex him onto the steel but Spears reverses it and drives him right onto the barrier and it does not give at all, no bend! That thing ain’t meant to be bumped on like that.
Throws him into the ring, cover for a nearfall. Scoop and a slam. Springboard Splash attempted and Cody with the knees up! Cody fights his way up, Kitchen Sink knee! Evasion in the corner, Snap Powerslam for a nearfall! Takes off the weight belt, smacks him with it and tosses it to Billy Gunn! Tries for the Beautiful Disaster, Spears avoids it and gets him with a Sit-Out Spinebuster for a nearfall! Commercial break. We come back to see Spears pulling a table out from under the ring, but Cody stops him with a suicide dive! Sets the table up on the floor! Pulls Spears towards it but Shawn escapes and wants to get some air but he gets held by another of the ‘fans’ and Cody clobbers him! Back into the ring, Cody up top, Spears surprises Cody with a Superplex!
Shawn rips off the covering for the turnbuckle. Brandi Rhodes on the apron yelling at Spears for his attempted cheating. He glances at the table… Cody grabs him from behind for the Cross-Rhodes but Spears escapes, ducks a clothesline and Cody barely avoids hitting her. Spears gets Cody onto his shoulders, Death Valley Driver over the top rope to the floor through the table! Cody’s at risk of being counted out. Count’s at seven before Cody rolls out of the wreckage. At 9, he slides in! Spears is distraught, frustrated. Spears pulls Cody up to his feet and slaps him across the face, wants the C4 but Cody escapes behind him, Cross-Rhodes into a second Cross-Rhodes! BUT NO, SPEARS KICKS OUT! Wow what in the world?! Pulls off the knee brace of Spears and locks in the Figure Four Leglock! Spears is struggling, his shoulders are down… for the three count!
Winner: Cody
Well you sure don’t see that very often, the Figure Four pin actually worked! Very rare. Really stunning that Spears kicked out of two straight Cross-Rhodes, even as much as Cody loves him that’s a lot to give.
