WWE Monday Night Raw begins with a vignette detailing the setup for Drew McIntyre vs. Andrade last week and the attack from Seth Rollins afterwards, which Angel Garza assisted in.
McIntyre makes his way out to start the show. He talks about being taken out last week and says while being a champion comes with a lot of prestige, it also paints a big bullseye on his back. He once heard it was lonely at the top but now that he’s here, he knows it’s a lie. It’s crowded as hell at the top! Calls out Seth for stomping him into the mat. Knows in spite of the messiah complex, this isn’t complicated. He’s the champion and Seth wants the title back. He posits the question as to whether or not Seth is deserving. McIntyre did note last week he’d give a shot to anyone that deserved it. Says some would say Seth doesn’t deserve a shot. But he’ll give him a chance any time since being the champ means beating the best.
Zelina Vega interrupts him, bringing Austin Theory and Angel Garza with her.
She tells Drew that he’s overlooking Angel, but it’s a distraction to allow Andrade to ambush him from behind! However McIntyre quickly gets the advantage with a Claymore! Zelina demands Angel and Austin go in to help him but neither of them take her up on it! McIntyre with the count-down and there’s the second Claymore, sending him out of the ring! The heels back up the ramp as McIntyre lets Garza know he’ll get the same later tonight, and tries to goad them into coming in there. They aren’t going for it though and they drag Andrade with them to the back.
It’s truly incredible seeing a top face being portrayed so strongly, and it’s someone people actually like! That’s something that uh… I mean basically hasn’t been a thing since the era of constant DX reunions when you think about it. Roman and Cena always got backlash, and practically every other face is made into a perpetual underdog. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Drew McIntyre, someone people universally connect with, get made to look this good. He’s invincible! And I see nothing wrong with it! It’s like, magic in 2020 WWE, really. Anyway I thought this might parlay directly into McIntyre/Garza but nope that’s later tonight, Austin Theory will be going up against Aleister Black first.
