In All Elite Wrestling, it has taken quite some time to get their women’s division off the ground. They always had a talented roster of women to work with, but a lack of time and attention to the division impacted it out of the gates. One key man behind the division is Kenny Omega, who wanted to make it one of the best in the world. He has now spoke on what held it back originally during an interview about Britt Baker in particular with Bleacher Report.
Kenny Omega Cites Lack Of TV Time For The Slow Start To The Division
The lack of TV time within AEW was the biggest hurdle for Kenny Omega and the AEW Women’s division. AEW originally only had their two hours with Dynamite, before AEW Dark was introduced, and this pushed the women’s division to the back of the line in a way. Kenny Omega had the following to say.
“It’s the most frustrating and rewarding feeling at the same time. We have a vision for this women’s division that I always wanted to have at the forefront. It’s like, ‘OK Kenny, you’ve got the reigns. Do what you can with five minutes of TV time.’ Wait a minute, we’ve got this huge, expansive roster, you have people chomping at the bit, raring to go. How am I going to introduce all these people with five minutes? How am I going to show just what makes them special?”
Only having a very limited amount of time for this division, while the men and tag divisions got the bulk of the show makes the success of the division that much more impressive. Everything is at a standstill at the moment with AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose missing from TV, but talents like Hikaru Shida & Britt Baker are doing their best to keep the division afloat. With the promise of bigger roles for people like Bea Priestley & Yuka Sakazuki on the way once they are able to appear more often for the company, things will only improve.
Do you think the AEW Women’s division should have been getting more time to showcase their roster? Who do you want to see more of in the division going forward? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
