AEW Dynamite is on tonight and as always we here at the Overtimer will give you the same in-depth coverage you’ve come to expect. That means a live recap and results, plus an in-depth look at everything’s that’s on tap! As usual Dynamite has a fair few matches announced in advance tonight so let’s get to it! In a unique battle, we have ourselves a No DQ tag team match tonight, pitting Chuck Taylor and Trent Barretta against Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc!
The Best Friends (w/ Orange Cassidy) vs. Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc (w/ Penelope Ford) (No DQ)
Other than the both of them being England-born I’m not really sure of the connection between Sabian and Havoc. The pairing just kinda materialized last week. I can’t say they’re a bad fit though and it’s pretty easy to just assume they go way back. Havoc’s budding feud with Dr. Luther was seemingly postponed thanks to travel bans and the same can be said for the Best Friends’ issues with the Death Triangle. Making do with what they have, they’re now involved in this angle with each other instead, with the Superbad duo of Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford mixed in. Ford also happens to make a strangely natural rival to Orange Cassidy which helps matters.
Speaking of which, it being No DQ means there should be no shortage of shenanigans from the folks at ringside. Between Cassidy’s silliness and Ford’s intergender leanings, that can only mean things that would piss off Jim Cornette which is always fun! It should be pretty fun stuff, but on paper to me it’s kinda clear where it’s going. Unless they’ve abruptly decided to make a new major team, I think it’s fair to say that Kip and Jimmy are a bit thrown-together just to give the Best Friends some solid opponents. Chuck and Trent are the real tag team which I think means a fair bit here.
Granted they have already had a tag title match, challenging Kenny with Michael Nakazawa by his side to fill in for Hangman Page. So they probably aren’t going to be in the title picture again anytime soon but then again, how many tag teams are actually active right now? They’re one of select few regular teams still competing. So I think you gotta keep them strong. Best Friends over.
