Before New Japan Pro Wrestling was shut down by COVID-19 for the past two months, there was several feuds being set up. None interested fans more than a potential clash between IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley & former British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr.
ZSJ would attack Moxley after he successfully defended his championship against Minoru Suzuki, and stake his claim as the next man to get a shot at Jon Moxley. Sadly since that happened, Moxley was busy with his commitments to All Elite Wrestling, where he would beat Chris Jericho for the AEW Championship. He will still be competing for NJPW, but is unable to do so until travel bans are lifted.
Zack Sabre Jr. Thinks He Can Beat Jon Moxley
“As much as I was attached to the British Heavyweight Championship, in a way it’s a little bit liberating. At some point I will get back to it, but it had taken priority over what I wanted to achieve. I had envisioned being British and US Heavyweight Champion at the same time. But now I can dedicate myself truly to America. I certainly want to be US Champion by July 4. I have some fantastic ideas… I don’t think anything would be better than being US Champion at Wrestle Dynasty, and how upset American wrestling fans would be. I think as well, Moxley was coming after my group. I didn’t want to wait for him to come to me, I wanted to jump in.”
He also spoke on the styles clash that will been seen between the two men, with ZSJ being a submission master and Moxley being a brawler.
“I can appreciate that fans would be excited about that; I’m excited about that. You don’t know which way it’s going to go. He’s been having these hardcore rules with everyone and that isn’t going to work with me; you can keep the furniture under the ring, sunshine. I wouldn’t be chasing after him if I didn’t think I could win. I can win. It won’t be easy, but I can win.”
