On this past episode of Monday Night RAW, Rey Mysterio was the victim of a brutal attack from Seth Rollins. He would have his eye shoved into the corner of the ring-steps, which was done to write him off TV until his contract situation is resolved. His current deal with WWE is coming to an end, and he has not yet resigned. Because of this, they did what they did with Matt Hardy; do an injury angle and hope he resigns. Of course Hardy did not sign with WWE again, and is now involved with All Elite Wrestling; where he is currently aligned with The Elite.
AEW Will Likely Be Interested In Rey Mysterio
Should Rey Mysterio choose to not resign with WWE, AEW has already shown interest in him. While All In wasn’t technically done under the AEW banner, it was the unofficial start of their brand. The main event that night was a 6 man tag match, with The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi facing Rey Fenix, Bandido & Rey Mysterio. WWE wanted Mysterio to pull out of this booking, but he refused. Despite time constraints due to Marty Scurll & Kazuchika Okada going too long, it was an incredible match. With Mysterio being in one of their first main events, and simply being an absolute legend, they would be foolish to not go after him.
Staying With WWE To Benefit His Son
While there are also other options alongside AEW like NJPW, Impact Wrestling or focusing on promotions like AAA, we could see him stay put. This would be helpful to Dominic Mysterio, who has started his training to become a professional wrestler and even got involved during Mysterios match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series for a Double 619 during the match.
Should he stay, he will be thrust into a feud with Seth Rollins given their scrap on Monday Night RAW, which would lead to come great matches in the coming months. It isn’t a great time to be a free agent, but we have seen people leave WWE and become bigger stars again in Matt Hardy & Dustin Rhodes, so it could be worth the risk.
