Frankie Kazarian vs. Jon Moxley | AEW Dynamite Preview | (5/6/2020) | All Elite Wrestling

AEW Dynamite is live once again here tonight! The AEW World Champion is in action tonight as Jon Moxley faces off with the perpetually underrated Frankie Kazarian! Everyone’s tested negative which is of course awesome news in general and also means none of the advertised matches will have to change. Here at the Overtimer you can expect the same in-depth coverage as always, which means live recaps and results plus a preview of everything that’s on tap! Let’s get to it!

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley vs. Frankie Kazarian (Non-title)

Just weeks before Double or Nothing, a major PPV on AEW’s schedule, the AEW World Champion Jon Moxley still doesn’t have an opponent. This doubtlessly has everything to do with the current ongoing situation. But all the same they haven’t even really hinted at where they’re going. The Inner Circle still hates Mox but I’m not really sure if a rematch with Chris Jericho is where they want to go, a redo on their last PPV main event, though possibly with a stip to freshen things up… then again it’s really the only ready-made thing, given how little time we have left. Chris might have Matt Hardy’s Elite Deletion to worry about on that night instead however.

In a different preview I mentioned how MJF made his intentions to challenge for the Big Platinum clear and with him returning tonight, it’s very possible he shows up after this match to make it official. Given his opponent and the past few weeks of vignettes, perhaps even one Scorpio Sky might throw his name in the hat. They clearly want him to be at that level eventually.

That’s after, of course. As for this match itself it’s pretty interesting. Frankie Kazarian is in some ways the third man of SCU. He doesn’t have quite the same legacy or character chops as Christopher Daniels, nor does he have Scorpio Sky’s athleticism and star potential. Still, he has this spot for good reason, he’s a rock solid worker and has been for a long, long time. He’s also the most hard-nosed of the three which in theory does make him the most natural match-up to Jon Moxley out of all of them. Always seen as an underappreciated guy, it’s pretty big for Kazarian to get a one-on-one match with the world champ like this. It should be a great chance for him to show us what he’s made of but he’s certainly not the next in line, so Moxley over.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
