AEW Dark rolls on. John Skyler and Brady Pierce are out here to face off with the New Jersey connection of Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela. I thought the name John Skyler sounded familiar and was surprised to see it was his AEW debut. After looking into it he’s quite the veteran, he’s worked for EVOLVE and has had try-outs with ROH, Impact, WWE on several occasions. Basically been on the radar of top promotions for a long time but never quite got signed. His partner Pierce meanwhile kinda resembles Curtis Axel in the face. Meanwhile Janela’s hair is all kinds of frizz.
Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela vs. John Skyler & Brady Pierce
Sonny starts with Pierce, lock up, Brady takes him to the corner, breaks but goes for a punch only for Kiss to duck it and nails him with one of his own! Floatover in the corner, running boot lands him in the splits! Pulls him over to Janela, tags him in, elbow drop to the singled out arm! Pierce shoots him to the ropes, Janela counters with a clotheslines, hits the ropes for a Flashing Elbow! Hits the ropes again, Skyler with a cheap shot knee to his back but Janela knocks him to the floor. Sidesteps Pierce in the corner, corner clothesline nailed, Kiss tags himself in, Janela sets Pierce up for the Front Flip Axe Kick! Hot dayam that looked good, somehow just gets a 1 count.
Janela tags back in, O’Connor Roll but Skyler blind tags his way in and Joey doesn’t realize it – Skyler with a Gargano-esque Pullover Spear! Janela taken to the corner, Pierce and Skyler with a double team, big boot from Pierce! He goes to the middle rope for an impressive moonsault but Joey rolls out of the way! Simultaneous tags, Sonny with a gorgeous dropsault, jumping back elbow! Gets whipped to the corner but gets a boot up, comes off the top with a Flying Rana! Leaps off Skyler’s back for a big leg drop, Pierce breaks up the pin! Sonny Kiss has either improved by leaps and bounds or was always better than I thought. Really great athleticism. Low dropkick baseball slide, Joey dives between Kiss’ legs for a suicide dive! Skyler gets the Kiss My Sass, Janela tags in and comes off the top for a big elbow drop and that is that!
Winner: Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss
Two matches in I feel confident in saying there’s something there for the Jersey Boys. This act seems ready for Dynamite to me.
