Since being released by AEW, there’s been plenty of talk about where CM Punk will go next if anywhere with most fans wanting or expecting him to return to the WWE.
While that’s a possibility, it’s also unlikely given the different personalities and how Punk seems able to divide a room.
He still could, but there’s another option.
A few weeks back when Impact Wrestling was in Chicago CM Punk was backstage. Instead of being forced to leave like he was at a WWE event when Vince McMahon found out, he was welcomed.
He reportedly talked with the talent and production people and it was all smiles and a pleasant time.
This could point to the possibility of Punk heading to Impact if they can agree on a number, and that would draw a lot of eyes to Impact and their product.
Bringing him in
While it’s always a risk bringing in someone that is considered a cancer by some, Impact Wrestling’s a different animal than AEW.
Scott D’Amore is a former wrestling and he restructured the culture to be more focused on serving the talent and fans and everyone there works to make every match the best they can.
In many ways it could be a good move for them and Punk to have him come there, and Bully Ray weighed in on it during a recent episode of Busted Open Radio.
Special thanks to PWMania.com for the following transcript.
“1000% I’d hire him. I think Punk needs to be in an environment that he is completely comfortable in and I know for a fact he was not completely comfortable in the WWE and then whatever went down in AEW.”
Like we mentioned above, Bully went on to explain why Punk would be a great asset wherever he goes.
“If you were to put CM Punk in IMPACT Wrestling. IMPACT’s stock would go up. I think that IMPACT and Punk could do some great business together and bring some eyes to the product.”
It’s good business
AEW saw an initial spike when Punk arrived, and then things settled down some and there’s no reason to think Impact Wrestling wouldn’t benefit much the same way.
Trinity’s fans followed her to Impact and in chats and other posts online they’ve said they enjoy the product as well, and it’s safe to expect the same will happen if they sign Punk.
Impact’s creative team is one of the best as they’re not afraid to have someone lose a match to keep fans guessing and their storylines are fun with a mix of old school and new school styles.
