It has been just over a month since Taynara Conti has left WWE. She had always shown potential, but potential alone was not enough to get her a major chance to shine on the brand. In one of her first interviews since her release with Ring The Belle, she would speak on how she never really got a chance to prove herself.
Taynara Conti Tried To Change Her Gimmick To No Success
“I picked like a hundred different gimmicks. They were like ‘no, keep doing what you’re doing. I tried to change my hair, to change my gimmick, to change my gear and they were like ‘no Tay, don’t change, just keep going, the opportunity is coming.” Fans will know that promised opportunity would never come for Conti, with her biggest roles being in the Mae Young Classic tournaments and a brief feud with Xia Li. This clearly shows that chance didn’t come because of a lack of effort on the part of Conti.
Constantly Pushed To The Back Of The Line
NXT in recent years has been a hotbed of pure talent in their women’s division. Because of this, homegrown stars like Conti have a hard time being showcased over options like Candice LeRae, Io Shirai and more. “I asked them ‘what about me?’ and they were like ‘well, there’s people coming with more experience, they have wrestling backgrounds of ten years.’ In my mind, I was like, if you keep signing people who have like ten years of experience and you don’t use me, why do you sign people that don’t come from pro wrestling?”
This shows a clear fundamental flaw in the strategy WWE would employ with signing promising athletes not from the world of professional wrestling. They have had some success with this in recent years with people like King Corbin & Braun Strowman, but very few examples come from their women’s division, outside of Bianca Belair.
However, there is one silver lining to all this. Conti gained a passion for wrestling during her stint with WWE. She has never wrestled outside the company, so it’s a whole new world for her but she is excited to take it on. “I don’t know much about indies or or other companies. It’s kind of new for me. But I know I can learn, and that’s exciting.”
