Jinder Mahal is back in WWE after being on the shelf due to injury, and he has a point to prove. He has already defeated Akira Tozawa in record time on his return to Monday Night RAW, and this week on Main Event he would get a tune up match against WWE Performance Center standout, Denzel Dejournette. Having already mixed it up with the likes of Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Sheamus and Cameron Grimes on NXT, Dejournette is one upset win away from stardom. Would that win come at the expense of a former WWE Champion on Main Event?
Denzel Dejournette Shows His Ability and Power
Jinder would start off with some grappling, a mistake against an experienced amateur wrestler like Dejournette. He would go to the ropes to force the break, and try to hit a back elbow by Dejournette would dodge. Again showing his skills, he would slip behind Mahal and hit a slam before trying for a headlock on the mat. Unsuccessful in gaining ground control, Dejournette would go back to what he knows with another slam to the mat. Mahal would get back to his feet and force Dejournette into the corner to break waist control, before beating him down with elbows and punches.
Mahal would throw Dejournette to the ropes, only to have him leap over his head and drop down before attempting a beautiful dropkick. Being a veteran of the ring, Mahal had his combo scouted, allowing Dejournette to crash to the mat before hitting him with a thrust kick for a near fall. Mahal would beat down Dejournette and choke him on the ropes, before raining down some heavy knees. After throwing him into the corner, Mahal would take Dejournette down with a snapmare before showing the rookie how to apply a headlock. Dejournette would fight out only to be dropped with another back elbow.
Jinder Mahal Shows That He Is In Peak Form Once Again
Mahal would then pick away at Dejournette with some kicks before applying a modified Camel Clutch, almost just playing with the rookie at this point. A DDT would get a near fall, but Dejournette wouldn’t give up. Countering a headlock with a Belly To Back Suplex, Dejournette would have a second chance in this match, but after a Stinger Splash in the corner, Mahal would come back with a running high knee before hitting the Khallas for the finish.
Dejournette is one of those wrestlers where he will become a star, but now is not his time. People will uncover this match five years from now and speak on how much potential he showed, and how he should have beat Jinder Mahal. But right now, Mahal is on the fast track to a shot at Drew McIntyre, and Denzel Dejournette is on his way back to the gym to keep improving. Do you think Dejournette will be a star some day?
