WWE has always seeked fan feedback through online surveys, and that hasn’t changed in 2020. They previously tested having streams of fans surrounding the screen during a match instead of having a proper crowd in attendence. WWE thankfully did not take this option, instead sticking with having no crowd for their recent shows. They have now sent out another survey with a much better option, having other wrestlers in the crowd to simulate having fans. Other questions also asked fans about their thoughts on pyrotechnics and having wrestlers on commentary.
All Elite Wrestling Have Been Doing This For Months Now
Since we have been seeing shows from AEW, they have been trying to distract from the no-crowd issue. Their winning approach would be to have some of their roster in the crowd, with people like Austin & Billy Gunn, Kip Sabian, Britt Baker, and others being common sights in the crowd. They have also used this to set matches up, with Britt Baker hitting people with her shoes to provoke them, and Marco Stunt staring down Brodie Lee and ending up in a match with him.
Would This Approach Work In WWE?
WWE wouldn’t even have to use established superstars with this, and could simply fill the stands with hopefuls from the WWE Performance Center. This can be explained as them learning from the best of the best, the established superstars of the company. We have seen names like Cal Bloom, Indi Hartwel & Denzel Dejournette get into the ring unsuccessfully, and some scouting from the stands could be all they need to get a win.
WWE having released a good chunk of their under-card like Heath Slater, No Way Jose, Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, and more make this more tricky, as they would be the best to fill the role of crowd in the way that AEW has done it. That being said, they do have plenty of people still on the roster between their brands, more than enough to build up a small crowd. If they go with this issue, it is a shame they didn’t think of it before Wrestlemania, as a crowd would have helped so much.
