Ricky Starks has some serious momentum on his way out of the National Wrestling Alliance. There he was able to capture the NWA Television Championship at the Hard Times PPV, winning a tournament final against Trevor Murdoch to become champion, before losing the belt to Zicky Dice on an episode of NWA Powerrr. He left the NWA on good terms, choosing to not sign a new deal with them despite being the middle of a pandemic. You don’t make that move without a plan in place, and we could see this come to frution, as rumors begin to swirl regarding AEW.
Ricky Starks Expected To Make AEW Debut As Surprise Opponent Of Cody Rhodes
From the NWA Television Championship to the TNT Championship, we could see Starks collect another championship in 2020. Cody Rhodes had previously stated that he will defend the TNT Championship against anyone who wants a shot, with him having beaten Jungle Boy & Marc Quen so far. We know Jake Hager will take a shot at Fyter Fest, but Cody might not make it that far. Ricky Starks is expected to be one of the first outside talents to take advantage of this chance to get into AEW. It is likely a promising young star like Starks has already been signed to AEW, and this would be a way to debut him in a huge way.
Cody Could Make Another Star In This Way
Even if he doesn’t end up winning the TNT Championship, having a huge match with Cody Rhodes as your first thing in AEW is a way to make someone a star, just look at Darby Allin. This would be the biggest stage Starks has ever been on, and he would have a higher ceiling here than going to NXT where they’re bloated with talent.
This is all just rumor at this time, and Starks is still a free agent at the time of writing. He could pop up anywhere in wrestling, atleast in North America. AEW is just the most likely location for him.
Do you think Ricky Starks will be making his AEW debut soon? Should he win the TNT Championship in his debut performance, to help push Cody closer to a heel turn? Let us know what you think about this in the comment section down below.
