There are some constants within WWE. Sasha Banks loses in title matches, NXT Tag Teams fail when they come to RAW & Smackdown, and Asuka loses to Charlotte Flair. The only exception was when the Kabuki Warriors beat Flair & Lynch at TLC in 2019. When it comes to single matches, Asuka has yet to be able to rout Flair when they face off one on one. With her having lost on the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW in a non-title match, it is looking like after Nia Jax, Asuka will have to face The Queen once again. Can Asuka beat Charlotte Flair?
Asuka Has Only Beaten Charlotte Flair Once
Looking at their record, Charlotte Flair has three actual victories over Asuka, as well as DQ & count-out victories bringing her up to 5 wins. Meanwhile, Asuka has one definitive victory over Charlotte Flair, coming from December 2019. She has one DQ victory as well from 2018. This puts the advantage firmly in the realm of Charlotte whenever they meet. Now though needs to be different.
Proving She Is A Worthy RAW Women’s Champion
At Money In The Bank, Asuka won the briefcase. The next night on RAW, it was revealed that inside was not a contract for a title match, but the RAW Women’s Championship instead. This was due to the previous champion of Becky Lynch taking time off due to pregnancy, and having to vacate the championship. Having essentially been handed the RAW Women’s Championship, Asuka needs to prove herself as a champion. You can only coast for so long based on your past successes, and while she was the most dominiant NXT Women’s Champion of all time, that was too long ago now. She needs to rack up defenses, starting with Nia Jax. After her, Charlotte Flair, Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair and Natalya all stand as worthy challengers for her. Charlotte could end this early, making her Asukas key challenger.
Good rivalaries are rare in WWE, and Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair is becoming exactly this. Their matches are always fantastic, and fans might complain but they always deliver in the end.
